Been reading Siegel+Shuster (+Cassidy+Boring) Superman strip. Good art and great writing. There have been a lot of interesting takes on Supes but you can't beat the original IMO.

Oh shit. I actually haven't read to much recently, though I'm starting to get into Batman's No Man's Land saga, which is supposed to be good in it's own right, but I'm particularly trying to get into Cassandra Cain, since I missed her entire tenure as Batgirl lol

there's a CE Bookworm thread where i've been posting about the indie fantasy series i've been reading, Bartram's Maw. i'm currently about halfway through the second book, She Courts Darkness. it's a really fun series to read, if you like character-driven low fantasy with intriguing and deep worldbuilding. there's a trilogy and a couple novellas in the same setting.
That sounds pretty good. Novellas are such an underrated format.

I recently (few days ago) went back and read the manga Vinland Saga from the beginning up until the current chapter of 199. It's really good.

I'm currently reading Don Quixote again for the hundredth time. I'm always looking for something new to read but end up reading something I've already finished instead.

Sometimes you just know a book is gonna be good from the title, and that's a hell of a great one.

What Ive read this year:

Tokyo Vice- I read this in preparation for watching the TV series on HBO Max. Mainly deals with the Yakuza and crime in Japan as you can imagine. It wasnt that great but it was readable. TV series was way better. It is supposedly a non-fiction memoir but I read that the author embellished and made things up and it would not surprise me. He comes across as a douchey nerd at times and a few chapters started out like I was banging this woman and then my work called so I had to head out. Of course she begged me to stay and finish the job but lol, duty calls! I would give it a C-

The Ruins- Really solid horror novel. I would suggest going in blind and just reading it if interested. B+

Mieruko-chan (manga, Japanese ver.)- Started the manga as I enjoyed the anime. Read 4 or 5 volumes so far. Enjoyable, B.

Now reading The Killing in the Consulate about the killing of the journalist Khashoggi by Saudi Arabia.

Yea, Hendrix knows how to title his books.

The Final Girl Support Group was also pretty good.

I look forward to reading his other titles, Horrorstr, My Best Friend's Exorcism, and The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires pretty soon.

I still remember watching NPR's coverage about that. Awful blow against the freedom of the press and it troubles me to see both presidential administrations have hand-waved it away since then...

Getting ready to read Spare no one: mass violence in Roman warfare by Gabriel Baker. While I usually stick to Classical Greece I'm always interested in how ancient states use violence as a means of control and subjugation. I've read the excellent paper Defeat and Destruction by Hans van Wees detailing the types of violence committed by the Classical Greeks unto their defeated opponents and this looks like a very interesting read.

Currently reading Broken homes, which is book 4 in the Peter Grant series (Rivers of London). Think Dresden files, but the main character is a cop and just starting out with magic. So kinda urban fantasy crime thrillers, they're pretty nice.

I used to read a ton as a kid, but I probably haven't read a book for fun in like 15 years. I feel like my attention span is just kind of fucked from technology now, but I managed to read ~50 pages of The Colour of Magic (Discworld) yesterday. Hoping I can keep that up, I enjoyed what I read and I've heard it's a huge series

I do read a lot of manga tho >_> recently read Dead Dead Demon's Dedededestruction, and gonna reread PLUTO in anticipation for the anime.

I'm getting back into self-help books. I'm thinking about picking up Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay Gibson as it's gotten high praise.

I also need to read more to make myself a better writer but I'm so undisciplined when it comes to reading.

Btw, anyone got suggestions on an ebook reader? I'm looking for something outside of the Amazon ecosystem and for 120 USD or under. I've been looking at KOBO offerings but I'm seeing so many mixed reviews.
