Very nice, I think I mentioned last thread about Ploog's Ghost Rider. He's an underrated artist. And Marvel Horror is a great line. Kind of the swan song for pre-Code comics, especially their B+W magazines. Don't forget to check out Tales of the Zombie, solid Gerber scripts, excellent Marcos art.

Know that feeling lol
Btw, anyone got suggestions on an ebook reader? I'm looking for something outside of the Amazon ecosystem and for 120 USD or under. I've been looking at KOBO offerings but I'm seeing so many mixed reviews.
Bought a Libra 2 last year which is a bit more $ so I'll just talk about some build/function things in general:
ProsOnly had to connect to the web for initial set-up, that may have changed in the interim
Can side-load everything
.epubs look really nice, can be zoomed in, text size altered etc
Battery life is fantastic, you can leave it sitting for months and still have over 90%, daily reading begs a charge maybe once every two weeks
Physical page-turn buttons are handy if you can find a similar/cheaper model

ConsStart-up is hit and miss, sometimes it starts immediately, sometimes it freezes on the "loading" screen and requires a hard reboot
I've tried PDFs of books and CBZs of B+W comics/manga; PDF doesn't have the same quality of life support as .epub (no text size alteration, zoom in is awkward, page turn doesn't function as nicely etc etc), CBZ is slightly better but "loads" each page in a really jarring manner
I personally wouldn't buy a model without physical buttons, e-ink screens feel "gritty" compared to conventional touch screens

Hopefully that helps a little in your search. Overall I'm pretty happy with KOBO, no major failings yet, just gotta work with its strengths.

I was starting to read The Great Gatsby for the first time but tons of stuff happened and 2 years ago later still haven't had the time to restart.

The exact same thing with Crime and Punishment. I started, was reaaally into it. But after getting almost to the middle, stuff happened and I couldn't continue, then lost momentum.

I have several books to read kinda piled now, mostly english "basics" that I don't know.

The last thing I did read was literally all the Sherlock Holmes ones. I liked the short stories better than the longer novels.

It's been quite a bit since I've last read Holmes, maybe ten years even. I believe I had a similar opinion too. Doyle just worked better with the shorter format. Fond memories of Baskervilles though, it had a real gothic feeling even after the reveal, and the scenery description was top notch.

I've read six novels so far this year
In Dubious Battle, by John Steinbeck
Signs Preceding The End of the World, by Yuri Herrera
The Sound and The Fury, by William Faulkner
The Decagon House Murders, by Yukito Ayatsuji
We Had to Remove this Post, by Hanna Bervoets
A Dead Man's Memoir, by Mikhail Bulgakov

Of those, Signs Preceding... has been my favorite so far, but the only one I really didn't care for was The Decagon House Murders

This was me for a few years until really committing to it at the start of this year. I'd gotten halfway through A Dead Man's Memoir last summer. Tbh it was the internet that had killed my attention span; spending less time online scrolling through CE/Twitter has helped.

Yeah, same. Out of the long ones definitely the one that stuck out was Baskervilles. Maybe I would've enjoyed it more if I didn't already know the outcome from movies though. I guess that's also the appeal of the short ones. My favorite compilation is The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.

Yeah I guess it's all about deciding to commit to it, I'm just kinda afraid to try when there's a lot going on in the risk of not being able to follow through again.

By the way I googled that and sounds interesting, never heard of Bulgakov (I usually like russian writers). Anna Karenina was one of the first big novels I ever read, and also The Queen of Spades.

I edit my goal on Goodreads after every book I finish. Some periods I can go through a book per week, others I don't touch a book for months. I'm really just happy as long as I keep the habit of reading a little bit daily, but I try not to feel bad when I fall off.

Echoing scar, no specific target in mind. 2020's was 14, 2021 was ironically 21, 2022 was 44, so far 2023 is 4 (unusually high ratio at half of what I've read this year).
Basically I go for whatever I'm feeling at the time, but in terms of end count books are usually lower than comics or manga.

About one novel every 4 to 5 weeks, I read about 50 to 100 comic books a month at this rate.. burning through a lot of what I want to read so I can cancel the app in a few months and get the DC one for a while.

I've probably spent twenty minutes thinking. Its difficult to articulate an answer worthy of the text.
The characters are what really got me. They are both complex enough to feel real, yet familiar enough to reflect a part of us. And ultimately that's what the plot is about: the family history, the bonds of friendship, the good and evil and the choice we all carry inside ourselves.
I'm also a sucker for manly speeches, of which there were excellent ones at the midway and end points.

Been building some Gundam Wing gunpla, so I picked up and am about halfway through GW: Glory to the Losers manga.

Novels I have been oscillating between this year are the Frank Herbert Dune novels and the Dresden Files series (Ill have to check out that other series mentioned in this topic. Earlier this month I finished God Emperor of Dune and am currently on the 11th Dresden Files novel (Turn Coat). All first-time reads.

Next on the docket is Fingersmith (recently watched for the first time and loved The Handmaiden), The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings. I havent read The Hobbit since freshman year of high school and Ive never read Lord of the Rings despite saying Ive wanted to for years.
