For those that might not care. Or just want to tell me they dont.

Not much has changed since the last topic purged. Hes fallen twice now. Once when I was here, but he only scraped his elbow.

Today I got in and he is asleep with a pressure gauze over his right eye... I havent been notified about this.

As I told my siblings about it, the nurse came in to ask me if I had been called. No. Apparently he got up to go to the bathroom (same reason as last time) and just took a header.

Abrasions:
Right hand
Left wrist
Right knee
Right shoulder
Bridge of his nose

Laceration
Above right eye

They got to him right away and there was confusion as to who should call me. And apparently right after an emergency happened on the ward, which might be connected to the Candles being lit.

They gave him some good IV pain meds and he seems comfortable. Said he didnt break anything.

So I didnt go out because I was giving myself time to not lose my biscuits asking why I wasnt called. The nurse said it wont happen again. That she didnt want me to get two calls, I said Id prefer that to none

Im going to do some more adulting and do a general life update later.

Forgive me lack of recollection -- is he back home now or at a hospice/care facility of sorts?

This was the case where he was at your house and basically refused to get help, correct?

If he keeps hurting himself by getting out of bed without help, why haven't they taken any measures to try and stop him from doing that?

Hes still in the same hospital, the hospice ward. They basically expect him to go soon.

Im not sure what they can do other than strap him to the bed, then its basically incarceration... holding him down to the bed to the point when he cant move. Theres a system on the bed to alert the nurses station if he gets out of bed or falls... so they know when it happens.

General update:

Been adulting pretty hard. Got all but one of my dads bills paid... the last one is a credit card thats a lot higher than I expected. Not insurmountable, but oof. He hasnt used it in over 18 months but its only paying minimum.

But he isnt behind or outstanding anything. I know that because I just pulled his credit reports. He has another credit card I didnt know about but its zero balance.

Also registered his vehicle and insured it again. I didnt realize it wasnt... but thats fixed.

Also got my insurance updated for where I live now... and it went up by 50%. From $300 every 6 over 6 payments to $464 and to get that I needed to make a one time payment. The reason? The accident where I got rear ended... yep.

Getting through the mail in the house

Got dads taxes from 2021 done

Finally got the affidavit for my mother in laws bank account done and mailed off.

My grand mother in laws property is apparently ready to sell, and it will mean a hefty chunk for the wife

And I still have to clean the house. But Ive made strides in that too.

Im tempted to take off to go get more work done... since dad is only sleeping today.

They dont have a pressure sensitive alarm in his bed?

Youre dealing with everything with a stoicism thats frankly inspiring.

Also, mad respect for not going apeshit that no-one notified you. Thats a real failing on their part.

He had cancer in 2020, took over a year to get in to see the doctors. He didnt do his treatments in proper time, and was never in remission. But he just kind of let himself go, he had a problem urinating and rather than go to a doctor to take a pill he became bedridden and refused to go to the hospital for over 6 weeks where he developed at least 2 infection and pneumonia and several bed sores.

Hes very emasciated. So him building strength and muscle mass back is extremely difficult.

While the cancer hasnt spread hes just not flourishing. He doesnt always eat as much as he should so its just decline at this point.

I sat for awhile so I wouldnt lose my biscuits. I was very not happy.

Yeah, it sucks. I was very annoyed when he told me how much my bill would go up.

Ive been thinking I should get a job to help pay the bills around here... but Im debating either getting something in my field or something temporary in case I need to quit to take care of my dad.

Stuff like TC's insurance thing is why I don't drive.

Why yes I do want to avoid adding several hundred a month to expenses + perodic maintence after dropping 4-5 digits on a down payment. Right after getting booted off my parents insurance and inflation going nuts.

While also raising my chances of death on any given day by ~15%(not a raw 15% chance but 15% over whatever the non driver rate is)

Regardless TC is one resilient dude. I am really sorry you have gone through this.

Man. This is a pretty miserable stage.

It's a been a journey between the last 2 topics. Hope you have some space in time to yourself to digest all of it.

At least now there's no more guessing, and your dad is done suffering.

I started this thread with awe for how much you've done.. and now I'm not sure what to say :/

I can't even put words to how sorry I am. You've been through so much, and it's not fair. I know you're numb to it, and probably have mixed feelings about it. But at least he's not longer suffering, and you'll soon be finished getting everything sorted out and can hopefully begin moving towards a more normal life.

Ah, I see. I understand that feeling. When my dad almost died(twice), I felt nothing too.

You're a good son though, being there for him regardless of that. He may not have expressed it well, but I'm certain on some level, he saw and appreciated that.

Sorry TC. Life is shit sometimes. I have faith youll come out of this a stronger person. It sounds like you are already strong as fuck based on what youve posted already. But remember in those days you dont feel like being strong. Thats ok as well.
