lmao

I'll tip at a coffee shop if I'm asking for something particularly specific and time-intensive to make. But if I'm just picking up a latte or cappuccino then fuck that <_<

I don't really like these shitty opinion articles that pretend the working poor don't exist and that everyone makes 90k a year or more. Even then, the middle class shouldn't be subsidizing the restaurant and coffee shop industry with 20% tips.

I'll 10% tip when I want.

No, no, no.

10% is basically "slap your mom in the face" rude
15% is " intentionally stepped on your toes" rude
Even 20% can make you seem a cheapskate

You have to tip 25% or more

10% is only okay for takeout

Only in Murrica would someone get pissed at being tipped 'only' 15%.

Literally no one except Twitter accounts get pissed at people tipping 20%, and everyone knows their opinions are disingenuous anyway.

The only place I go these days where tipping is expected is a local bar here in Vegas. I always tip 30% to servers/bartenders if I'm only drinking and I tip 40% if I order food too, since the servers share a percentage of their tips with the cooks. When I win money gambling at the bar, I always give 10% of my winnings back to the bartender who will split it with whoever is working.

What I tip at the coffee shop depends on what Im getting. If my order takes any sort of skill, like pulling a good espresso shot, Ill leave a nice tip. If theyre just pumping coffee out of a vacuum pot into a cup, then I tip a dollar, tops. I wouldnt tip for a bottle of water at a coffee shop any more than I would at a gas station.

Whoever created tipping is a piece of shit. All it does is encourage companies to hire at minimum wage or barely over and exploit regular people by getting them to pay for employees wage.

I was interested and I went looking for the history of tipping, and it was a way of rich people to show off their wealth. Tip is also short for To Insure Promptitude. Back in the 1890's most Americans were against tipping.

It was also used as a means of racial oppression. During the time of reconstruction many jobs that black people commonly held had shitty wages and they were forced to rely on tips. It's why people of the service industry have a minimum wage of just $2, because at the time minimum wage laws were enacted those were black jobs and nobody wanted to pay them.

We should remind people of this on a massive scale to the point that it becomes political. Then half of the country will stop tipping on general principle, just to stick it to the opposite party.
