This isn't anything new and yes they are.
This is like when people claim to have ADHD or OCD when they either are "acting hyper" or "are annoyed by something".

What's up with the trend of you shaming people for mentioning their potential struggles with mental health?

what
That's actually incredibly common for autistic people due to "special interests/hyperfixations" as they're called. The extreme breadth of knowledge about a given topic + lack of proper social performance result in a lot of autistic people getting shit for "lecturing" people or being smarmy know-it-alls or whatever when they're not. Most people experience it every once in a while but it's like... a weekly thing for autistic people, if not more common than that.

What's with the trend of people describing normal feelings as neurodivergent

It's the latest buzzword that the Internet has latched onto without actually understanding it. And then constantly running it into the ground.

It doesn't help that socially awkward people love using it as an excuse that absolves them of all personal responsibility, in the same way "it's a glandular problem" gets dragged out to justify weight problems. The entire concept of taking responsibility for your own actions and the consequences thereof has become anathema over the last few decades. Everything is always someone else's fault.

The problem becomes, there are absolutely people who are neurodivergent who do require a bit more patience or understanding to deal with in certain situations. But people misusing the self-diagnosis as an excuse sort of make it easier for other people to dismiss all cases (again, in exactly the same way people tend to dismiss "it's a glandular problem", because of how often it isn't).
