Scooby-Doo spinoff series Velma has become the worst rated animated show in history on IMDb.

Created by Charlie Grandy, the series puts an adult spin on the character of Velma Dinkley, voiced by Mindy Kaling. Other cast members include Glenn Howerton as Fred Jones, Sam Richardson as Norville Rogers and Constance Wu as Daphne Blake.

While the series aims for the style of fellow HBO Max series Harley Quinn, the show has been met with mixed reviews from critics. On Metacritic, the show holds a 59 rating, while reactions online have been largely negative.

On IMDb, where users can rate shows between 1 and 10, Velma has earned an average score of 1.3 after over 50,000 votes.

As a result, Velma has become the worst animated series and the third worst rated show on the platform. The worst rated show is The Pogmentary, a documentary about footballer Paul Poghba, followed by a Turkish musical drama titled Iste Bu Benim Masalim...

Yeah that's terrible. I never saw a rating that low honestly for anything. I've seen like 3 and 4s before. Rarely gets to 2 even honestly. So it has to be quite horrible

It's user ratings, so things routinely get down there.

Not that I'm defending it since it sounds by all accounts pretty terrible, that sounds kind of review bombed, doesn't it? tbh the show doesn't sound worthy of that kind of time spent thinking about it.. kind of miss when people were more honest online.

That's how it goes: be conservative, get what you deserve.

Few of them even watch. Its gotten a lot better these past few episodes as the mystery and action has ramped up. Im enjoying it.

If anything, the rating would be lower if IMDB didnt gatekeep by deleting low scores.

What do people get out of review bombing? Has something like this ever actually made a release flop? Do enough people even look at reviews for it to matter?

Apparently, it has a lower rating than Butt Ugly Martians.

Gloating, like this topic. Like, if you've had any experience with imdb before, you'd immediately recognize a 1.3 as a bogus rating. Like it has to be review bombing because average scores don't ever go that low (for good reason, a lower bound of 1 means that a 1.3 needs an absurd amount of 1 star ratings).

But people have been actively pretending like the score isn't absurd, because it's about something else.

I think you guys need to get your messaging straight.

While I have no doubt that it's getting review bombed (it's been the internet's favorite punching bag for weeks), I did feel the need to satisfy my morbid curiosity and... yikes. It really is truly awful. Aimless, mean spirited, "progressive" in all the wrong ways... I've seen a conspiracy theory floating around that the show is a secret right-wing psyop, and... I can see why people might think that. It's literally written like the sort of "woke boogeyman ruining your childhood" show that Tucker Carlson likes to pretend exists.

It's basically a Family Guy cutaway gag mocking modern liberal remakes, made into a full series.

I do not care why someone makes fun of something made by a conservative that contains conservative leaning elements. As long as conservatives fail that is good for me, even if it's because its detractors view something as "woke."

Mindy Kaling is not politically conservative.

I gave it the benefit of the doubt and it starts with cockroaches fucking each others and a bunch of naked teenagers arguing in the shower about Riverdale. Very uncomfortable

From what I've seen and heard of the show, this sounds like a fairly accurate description of it. It's too "woke" to appeal to conservative audiences, but the writing is also so terrible and makes the cast into such genuinely awful and unlikeable people for no good reason that more liberal audiences don't like it either. Who is this show even supposed to appeal to?

Well she talks about how some of her favorite characters like Jack Donaghy and Alex P Keaton have very strong opinions that are very different from her own and why would she want to make a show and write her character as a liberal west side person living in Brentwood and sending her kids to private school, she says to let her live that life and let the character be wild. She also think its kind of sexist that people assume she is just directly transcribing her own personality and beliefs into her characters instead of, you know, being a writer writing a character.
