LibsOfTikTok has been at the center of a conservative uproar over how schools talk about the existence of queer people, with Raichiks memes and videos falsely depicting the LGBTQ community as using the classroom to groom children. Raichik is now famous on the right, appearing on Tucker Carlsons show on Fox Nation, and getting a shoutout on Joe Rogans podcast, which is the most-listened-to in America.

This week on Twitter, Raichik reposted a video of a teacher talking to kids about gender identity. Homeschool your kids, she wrote.

A growing chorus of right-wing figures have latched onto this anti-LGBTQ moral panic along with a corresponding panic over critical race theory being taught in schools to encourage their followers to home-school their children.

Parents raising their kids to be assholes is troubling, but a society that encourages and enables them to do so, which sees their ability to do so as their right, is the bigger concern.

This is an extension of the idea that parents own their kids essentially as property and that parents have the right to indoctrinate kids into whatever their beliefs are. It's the last refuge of people with beliefs that have a hard time reproducing any other way, that fold in the face of meeting and forming relationships with any other types of people.

That's exactly what the far right and Christian nationalists want to enforce and protect.

It's part projection and part unashamed wielding of power. They consider their ideas legitimate and "leftist" ones illegitimate. They have no problem forcing correct beliefs while banning incorrect ones. They don't see any hypocrisy there or feel any shame about it, they think they're doing the right thing.

They know what damages their hate bubble and they want to stop it from having a chance to deprogram their kids. They'll do what it takes to make that happen, including creating a theocracy or a fascist state, prosecuting teachers, you name it. And they won't feel the least bit bad about it.

Leftists need to become more unabashed about amassing and exercising power ourselves, lest we end up on trial before the Christian Elders for mentioning Steven Universe to a kid.

They dont. Hes too scary for them.

This is specifically why the GOP fight so hard to defund public schools and try and push people toward private/home shcooling.

I used to live basically down the street from them. Never met them or knew them or anything, but in a small town every one is close by. I now live like 5 minutes away.

I saw the original tweet thread when this story broke, which I oviously found interesting cause of the proximity, but I really didn't expect it to go national like this.

I'm very curious how the community as a whole will react to this. The mayor somebody made a statement but the local paper is paywalled so I couldn't read it.

In case you haven't seen the other thread, they were customers of mine for their dinky little home "school" -- they aren't anymore. No refunds. So the school won't exist (at least for teaching the kids to read) until they find a new platform provider. We just straight up shut that shit down.

The actual fuck? No it doesn't. Not even close. Heck, most porn doesn't meet the criteria for obscenity. Fighting words require naming a specific threat and imminent time to be exempt.

Hate speech is still protected by the first amendment. However, specific laws ban certain types of discrimination and harassment in schools and businesses, and it's very easy for hate speech to cross into harassment.

When it was first posted in the other thread and I read the article, I immediately recognized the name Katja Lawrence from some correspondence I'd had with her; looked her up and yep, sure enough it was the same Katja Lawrence from Upper Sandusky (she's not actually from the city, but a small town very close by; they had the same static IP for at least four years and don't use a VPN).

This should be reason enough to remove the children from the home.

Somebody should throw a copy of The Diary of Anne Frank over the fence in hopes that one of the children find it before their parents do. It might give them an idea of how "wonderful" people like their parents are.
