But his wife was a direct ancestor to Jesus, so his brother, Onan, had to make her pregnant in his dead brothers name. There was a third brother, but his father, Judas, didnt want him to die as well, because he thought she was cursed. And when they take them that literal, they will either glorify or demonize the setting/plot over the actual words or how you interpret them. One could easily read this passage and place themselves in a situation where their wife was going to die of natural causes, let's say cancer for example. Or some people will take it as, God is taking this woman's life away purely out of hatred/evil. It could mean you should persevere to the future when loved ones are lost. And to not sit alone in shame, covering yourself from the world and get back out and enjoy life eventually.
