It's not our job to come up with interesting combat.

I don't know, all the dodging, jumping and spell chaining looks great to me as i was a bit afraid combat would be like in the first gameplay reveal were everyone stood in the same place, just throwing spells:

As long as it feels good, it should work. I kinda expected a really simplified combat system in this tbh.

Would you have preferred me to say your post gave me boomer vibes? I said it gave me gamer gate vibes because many gamer gaters were trying to disguise their complaint of feminist and "woke" media with junk like "ethics of journalism" and how gaming journalism was better back then than it was now. Your post gives me passive aggressive vibes of the positive reception the game seems to be getting. Just remember, it's only a preview and it can very well be WB just showing the best parts of the game (I'm putting my money on that), but it could also just be a good video game.

And weird of you asking if I'm into conspiracy theories when your whole post was coming off as one. It just sounds like a case of you disagreeing with a game's review score and making assumptions about the gaming journalism industry as a whole. I disagree a lot with many game review scores like gaming sites constantly giving CoD games 10/10 scores, but that doesn't mean I'm going to make an assumption as a whole regarding a whole industry.

I hope it wins game of the year just for the meltdowns.

It's just childish, just play games that you enjoy. I'm getting this game day 1 because my wife is a huge potterhead (a dumb name harry potter fans give themselves), but I definately know that it's going to be more of me playing it than her because she's just bad at video games lol.

I have nothing against trans people or anyone else associated within the lgbt group.
In fact I'm for their inclusion in the game.
I just want to see how places like resetera, twitter or the few people on this board are going to go off.

Still not sure how anyone can watch the combat and think that looks good. The previews so far have been the character shooting the red spell three times then throwing a rock for the 4th hit in every combat scenario lol who would have known magic could be so boring

I'd play it over the new God of War games

The combat I'm sure won't be amazing, even in the movies it honestly looked kind of ridiculous, just a bunch of people flicking sticks at each other, but a lot of open world games get a pass for shitty combat. Games like these are more about immersing into a world and its stories, majority of RPGs have pretty bland combat mechanics.

I don't think it's fair to poke at the combat right away. Everything we've seen so far is spells from right in the beginning of the game.

I'm sure the combat opens up mid-late game when you upgrade your spells and gain more powerful ones.

I honestly can't wait to play this already have it pre-installed. I even took some time off to play.

Id buy it, but I dont care about Harry Potter.

its going to come out, sell well, and probably be an all right game all things considered. right wing people will brag about it for a few days then get bored and move on. liberal people will quietly grumble on twitter for a few days and get bored and move on. by the end of the year it will be that weird thing d everyone looks back at confused as to why they cared so much

Eh, the combat is closer to a dial-a-combo system when played as intended. One of the color-coded spells followed by 3 basic attacks then repeat. If the enemy puts up a shield and your spell of that type is on cooldown you can try to bypass their shield by throwing an object at them instead.

If a player tries to spam the same spell as it is on cooldown their wand sort of releases a pop of sparks and prevents them from fighting for a second and a half.

It won't be the deepest combat by any means, but those that stick with it will be focusing on how to juggle multiple enemies at once. There are also very basic puzzle elements in how to approach a group of enemies for the best result, as differently named enemies have different attacks. E.g. among the Poachers the Duelists are aggressive, the Executioners summon large fire tornadoes, Rangers like to hide away and lift the player into the air, etc. So you'll want to prioritize dangerous variants, preferably removing several from stealth. Nothing fancy, but more engaging than mashing the basic attack.

I do think score inflation is a worthy thing to talk about.

I remember when GameSpot very rarely gave out 10's, but I think sometime in the 2010's, they just started giving them out like candy on Halloween.

You could argue games have gotten better, I mean, sure. Still, I think it's partially our fault. We need to dial it back a little; I don't see movies needing a 9+ avg. to be considered good, yet we do that to games. I'm pretty sure most great movies are in the 7+ range, and good movies are like 6+. A movie getting an 8+ is a pretty worthy score.

Really depends on how you score. I know a lot of people base it on school grades. That's how critical game scoring seems to generally go. If you got a 50 on a term paper, it didn't mean you wrote a decent report that had lots of good and bad to it. It meant you solidly failed, but you like used proper formatting and at least turned in something resembling a paper.

So it depends on if you're scoring a game on an individual level out of 100, or if you're scoring it in comparison to all other games like it. "This hits 60% of what I consider for a game to be an all-time great" vs. "This is better than 60% of action rpgs"

I mean the reviews are probably gonna be very high. It's a high profile release with a high budget. That's literally all that matters to majority of the reviewers.

You can do the same thing with Accio. One on one the player should wreck normal enemies. The challenge will come from group fights.

Forspoken is quite buggy and lacks a lot of polish.

An extremely polished AAA game rarely gets low scores these days.

I think people should be making a bigger deal out of this than they are. The delayed releases are absolutely not a positive sign in any way, especially considering they started developing this game on the Xbone/PS4 originally.
