I am currently playing Royal after 4 years. I still love the game, but even by rpg standards, the cutscenes last forever. I swear sometimes the characters repeated the same stuff 20 times in a row. I feel like if I decided to do another playthrough, I could just go through main events quickly

All that massive dialogue is why you can't play a girl. They would have had to do even more massive dialogue to change for the female perspective

Nah, I think the amount of dialogue is fine. Most JRPG's are dialogue heavy. That's actually why I enjoy them.

The cutscenes is Persona 5 last a lot longer than cutscenes in FE games and most rpg games... I don't remember playing a game with more dialogs than this

Yup, I wouldn't mind more dialogue but they just repeat the same crap over and over

I think Trails of Cold Steel has a lot of loooong cut scenes also.

Having the same issue with Trails of Zero. The dialogue isn't poorly written or anything but the older I get, the shorter my patience becomes. I just don't want to listen to exposition anymore.

I feel most of Persona 5 is just the party hanging out and going "how about this power huh?". There's so much dead air narrative wise.

JRPGS have drifted from gaming territory into career territory with the time involved.

Dialogue is fine to me. Repeating it in text got annoying and I just skipped them.

Just watch an anime or movie and save 100 hrs

It's not every jrpg, but it is, by far, the most dialogue heavy genre. You want lots of dialogue/cutscenes then:

Persona series
Trails series
Xenosaga series
Xenoblade series
Star Ocean series (especially 3 and 4)
Tales of series
Dragon Quest series
Ni No Kuni

They're not all longer than Persona 5, but they definitely go heavier than most.

Trails doesn't last as long, but it really starts to grate when every single person in the cutscene has to say something, even if it's as stupid as "Go team!"

Yeah-- it's the repetitive texts that really suck. The scenes where people are actually talking to each other are pretty good.

You guys ever hear of Etrian Odyssey? Almost no dialogue. Pure gameplay.

Always skip train scenes. They are so boring.

Also, inconsistencies between story events and social links. Like Sojiro being fairly cold and distant in the story and calling you a delinquent even though youre rank 10 and he basically called you son a day ago in his social link.

Or making one of the girls your gf and, outside of anything social link-related, its all Youre a great friend Joker! and Hey Joker lets hang out.. as friends!

I realize it would be fairly difficult to make all of these story scenes dynamic to account for the social links.. but still

I just wanna say Himfu is the most logical choice for a romance option based on two things, she's your age, and she isn't in the group, meaning she's not gonna die on you inside some messed up fantasy.

The biggest problem with Persona 5 is that the game is so utterly afraid that the player either doesn't understand what is going on or has forgotten what they were doing. So basic concepts and plot points are explained over and over again.

They use Ryuji and Ann to be the reason for these constant explanations which really harms their competency as characters.

You can get to ~rank 5 or so and then hes locked until Futaba. He is still fairly cold shoulder to Joker until like.. the last month story-wise.

You don't need to be smart to be competent.

It's hard to feel like they're some great team who has grown in skill when simple metaverse concepts are still being explained to founding members in the later half of the game.

I am currently playing and he has been nice to joker after recruiting Futaba though. I just did it so it's fresh in my memory

Ryuji is unironically one of the best character. He got through so much shit, was the only one calling out Kamoshida and defending the girl and even borderline tried to sacrifice himself for you. He is the ultimate bro.

I think Bravely Default had a good balance if you skip the entirety of chapter 6 and 7.

If anything, they need to streamline the prologues better. It's like 4 to 6 between the different titles.
