Well, they have thought that about African-Americans as well and they even launched a phony drug war under Nixon. And those are the same like minded people that Trump appealed to sadly. He told them he was going to build a wall to keep people out yet the very people he claimed he wanted to keep out, worked for him at his hotels and resorts but somehow his flock bought it lock. stock and barrel.

Every president going back to Nixon and every GOP candidate all run campaigns based on "tough on crime platforms" which translates to locking certain people up.

Reagan passed a crime bill, GHW Bush signed off on Crime Control Act 1990, Bill Clinton (Joe Biden co sponsored it) signed off on the Omnibus 1994 crime bill that gave us the 3 strike law meaning if you get a 3rd felony conviction, that could land you a life sentence in jail even if the felonies were not serious.

No one ever explored Criminal Justice Reform! Just lock them up and throw away the key.
