Starting Tuesday I can't eat any solid foods. I'm only allowed broth, jello, apple or white grape juice, black coffee, tea, and soda. No milk, coffee creamer, orange or grapefruit juice, or anything red. I made 4 packages of jello: lemon, lime, pineapple, and berry blue.

Then Tuesday evening I have to start drinking 32 ounces of Miralax. Assuming I manage to get any sleep at all, I have to wake up at 1:30 in the morning and start drinking another 32 ounces of laxatives.

After 5:30 in the morning Wednesday I can't drink anything, not even water, until after the procedure.

"Your stool should be a clear, urine-like liquid if you have had a successful bowel prep"

Oh dear God.

What time is the colonoscopy on Wednesday? Wondering since you wont be able to drink anything after 5:30

Also, that sounds like a lot of work. And like a lot of stuff I dont want to worry about or do I would feel pretty bad until after the procedure if I had to do it I havent had one, and I dont really want to have one

I have to have one next month. It is my second one since I have digestive problems. I didn't have to drink Miralax, it was 2 bottles of some terrible lemon flavored stuff. At first I thought," I can handle this." A couple hours later I was sitting on the toilet thinking there couldn't possibly be anything left in me but my colon was telling a very urgent, different story.

Whatever they give to knock you out is very niiiiiiiice.

Youll be fine and its an easy procedure. Just make sure someone, preferably not horned and hairy, drives you home.

My dad has had one twice, and he has told me that the "prep" the night before is the worst part. Prepare to spend all night on the toilet and if you are lucky get like 2-3 hours of sleep. The actual proceedure is pretty easy, they just knock you out, do their thing, then you wake up and you go home.

All I had to do was go out and buy a douche at the pharmacy. Administered it to myself, drove to the hospital, and opted to stay awake for the procedure. Then drove to work lmao

This sounds like a sigmoidoscopy and not a colonoscopy.

Maybe... I think even the staff called it a colonoscopy, though. They gave me the option of sedation, but since I drove and had to go work, I opted to stay awake and watch the screen. It was very uncomfortable at first, but gets easier as the procedure goes on. Anyone who goes under definitely relieves themselves, I was holding in for dear life.

Thats weird, my doctor gave me this list on how to prep for one the other day:

1. Lemon
2. Grapefruit
3. Watermelon

I think he wants me to eat healthier!

My mom had colon cancer so has to have regular colonoscopies. The laxatives are supposed to be terrible, for her she eventually just gave up and stayed on the toilet all day. You have my sympathies.

Actually I was just making a joke, I took no offense to your otherwise smooth experience!

I had one recently, I didn't find the prep to be that much of a problem.

I needed to shit every hour or so for a few hours, but still had good control over my bowel movements. Was surprisingly easy to resist the temptation to stuff my face.

It's weird that they make you do the prep in the evening? They just told me to start 48 and 24 hours before so I started around noon each day.

While I feel for you for having to go through that, I can't imagine that eating straight up gelatin sugar is gonna make your stomach feel the greatest lol Best of luck, hope everything turns out fine in the end!

I only ate two of the packages of Jello, the berry blue and the lime. I kind of got sick of gelatin after that. I felt I was going to start jiggling.

I drank half of the laxative over the course of an hour, according to the directions. It didn't seem to bad, until about 15 minutes later and then the dam broke. Because I'd eaten nothing but blue and green gelatin all day, what came out was the most amazing shade of emerald green. Managed to get about 2 hours of sleep, though not contiguous, then woke up a 1:30 in the morning to start taking the rest of the laxative. By this point what was coming out was just pure liquid the color of the Gatorade I'd mixed the laxative with (which was, unfortunately, a bright yellow lemon-lime).

If you ever have a colonoscopy, buy a tube of Desitin (diaper rash cream) before you start your prep. My bum hole is SO SORE from pooping at least 30 times in one day.

The worst part of the actual procedure was getting the IV. They always have trouble starting an IV on me and when the nurse starts digging with the needle... AAAAAAAH!!!

They wheeled me into the operating room, had me lay on my left side, then injected something into the IV and the room started spinning. Next thing I knew I was back in the recovery room. I felt like going back to sleep for a few minutes, but that cleared quickly. They gave me their usual spiel (don't operate heavy machinery for 24 hours, etc) and I got dressed and walked out. I was a bit unsteady on my feet, but it wasn't too bad. I was in and out in about 2 hours.

The results were excellent. No polyps or anything. Nice, healthy butt tube.
