He just had some very misinformed perceptions of things that led to bad opinions (and he came around about them in time), and he lost an alt while aggressively trying to make a point about a certain symbol that itself is not offensive but was co-opted by a certain group and turned into something offensive. His head was in the right place, but he took a poor approach to making his point.
