You mean to say it's warm in the midwest while simultaneously being deathly cold in the northeast?

How is that news

It was deadly cold in Kansas a week ago and it's like 60 degrees today. It's disconcerting and absolutely wrecking my sinuses.

Over 20 degrees difference in less than one day is not normal around here, and yet we got it.

My understanding is "global warming" is a simplification as the increase in extremes is also a danger - hence the colder winters etc.

But I am not a scientist so just my two cents

Why should I even have an opinion on this? The correct position is to just hold the same opinion on how climate affects weather that is commonly accepted among climate scientists, right?

Umm, the Midwest has some of the worst winters in the country. It feeling like a balmy spring day is absolutely unusual and reason to be concerned.

I feel like that's always been the case here in WI. Not to say it's unrelated to climate change, but it's nit wholly abnormal. We've gotten snow in June before.

Actually they have a point, they just used a so-so example. I live on the EC and in the same state during the recent storms we got less than 6 inches both times, but not even 2 hours away from me in the same state a city got hit with 6 FEET of snow the first time and I'm not sure how much the second time, but it was still enough for people to get snowed and cause dozens of casualties. So yeah, Global Warming is that bad.

The Gulf Current is what keeps Northern Europe warm enough to live in.
With global warming, the North Pole ice will melt, which will cool down the Gulf Current, thus making Northern Europe colder.

Heat waves kill people too unfortunately. The "new" normal looks to have weather events on the extreme side, summer and winter. I can't remember ever hearing about so many wildfires. Hell, we had one in NC not too long ago that burned quite a bit. Last January it was in the 70s here when our average is low 50s. Getting crazy, and I feel like this is just the beginning.

Destabilization of the polar jet stream is causing these crazy fluctuations, and climate change will only make it worse. It may impact crop yields in a few decades. Try and keep up

Yea, weather's entire gimmick is being inconsistent and unpredictable. So oftentimes articles like these seem like clickbait more then anything.

And Our mere century's worth of weather observation isn't anywhere near enough to judge so.

Not sure you understand how climate change works. This is part of why they officially changed the name away from global warning. It confused people into thinking it was simple.

Oh yeah we had unusually high heat well into October, so many days of smoke filled air from all the fires

Im in Indiana and I remember some really lovely New Years Days in the early 2000s. 60s and sunny. I think wild fluctuations have always been common in the Midwest, except for mid-late summer when its always hot.

How is that news

It's going to be a lovely 55 degrees here in upstate New York today. Might even hit 60 this week apparently. It snowed 3 feet here around a week ago. A few days ago it was in single digits, if not the negative numbers.

It's not just the temperature extremes. The Hurricane and Tornado seasons have been worse. If the Global temperature rise keeps up like they say it's going to, the entire Gulf coast and some of the East coast will be flooded. Florida will be under water.

When?

Literally a shifting time table of when the sea levels rise and how much time it takes, if we never reverse climate change. It might take 30 to 200 years depending on action. There's articles from last year saying sea level rise is happening "faster than expected".

If they rise by 100 feet because a big chunk of Antarctica melts, then Florida is gone. Even a 50 foot rise in sea level will just completely flood Florida, destroy all the real estate and business, sports venues, vacation and interstate flight profits in relation to the state. Not to mention Disney World. Oh yeah, and it would displace 21 million people and completely fuck The Everglades. Imagine a bunch of poisonous snakes, wild cats and Alligators having to move north because of the change in sea level.
