I think it was more a general attitude among politicians of "ehh I guess these documents are supposed to be private, but they are just going to sit in a cabinet in my house and not be used for anything so I'm just not going to be concerned about tracking every last one of them down. Also if archives ever asks me for anything I'm just going to comply fully so there won't be any issues".

And then someone decided to deliberately take extra documents, lie about having documents, and completely resist turning over documents or providing any level of transparency.

Even if we assume there was not a deliberate attempt by Trump to sell state secrets (which is not a safe assumption by any stretch) it's possible that everything else was a result of Trump being Trump and the Trump approach is to lie and resist and litigate every step of every process regardless of if it's even necessary. It's absolutely insane but it lines up with how he has lived the entire rest of his life.

Its also important that the owners of the capital creating automation funnel the wealth into those effected.

With good government this inevitably leads to basic income and everyone being happy.

Remember the Durham investigation? No? Probably not. But it was the guy Barr tasked with investigating Hillary and the intelligence community over 2016 claiming the Russian collusion story was a nefarious plot by Clinton and the Deep State and then made a special prosecutor right before they left office so Biden couldn't end it. Well, it's been a total joke - the only two charges they brought against Clinton/gov't people were immediately acquitted. But we have more details and what a shitshow.

At one point it came out that it had become a criminal investigation but that was it so naturally everyone (including Trump lol) figured that meant they were looking to charge Hillary or Biden or some shit. Turns out that while trying to fish up excuses to go after Hillary they stumbled into a tip that implicated *Trump* so serious and credible that Barr felt it couldn't be ignored but chose to give it to Durham despite it having nothing to do with his investigation and they of course buried it to the point we don't even know wtf the tip even was to this day.

They also tried to get Soros's (yes really) emails based on *Russian* intelligence memos (yes really) that were believed to be seeded with misinformation and a judge told them to fuck off because this was obviously not a credible basis. So they went around the judge and asked a grand jury to subpeona them instead. Soros's foundation decided to just comply and... those emails were never used or cited in the investigation ever.

More in the article (like how a bunch of the team under them basically resigned in protest as it went increasingly off the rails, the Soros incident being one of them, Barr continuing to insinuate publicly they were finding "dark" things about Clinton and the intel community being another despite it being false and also talking about an active investigation) but it's a long one and those were the biggest pieces out of it IMO.

Im going to be pretty pissed if this goes through and I gave to work from the office 5 days a week again. ( as opposed to the current 1). My unit has been at least as productive as we were prior to teleworking, if not more so. The notion that the backlog is in any way related to employee laziness make my blood boil.

The ACTUAL cause of the backlog started with making the stimulus payments an IRS issue. By putting that on our plate it caused most everything else to grind to a halt for the better part of a year. And then putting income restrictions onto those payments cost countless man hours sorting out.

It put us in a situation where we had to get Non-Filer returns from individuals who don't normally have a requirement to file returns. So instead of just giving them a way to claim it directly we had to process what was essentially a blank tax return to put them in the system for 2019/2020.

But THAT caused a bunch of people who ARE required to file taxes to submit the "non filter" returns as well. But then a month or two later our system wouldn't accept their ACTUAL return because the blank return was already sitting there.

Which in turn required an amended return to correct. But at that point we were only processing amended returns by mail (we have since expanded to allow efiling of some amendments).

And those were delayed because our processing sites were emptied for a couple months while social distancing protocols were being implemented.

Which caused people to send in extra copies of their amended returns because they were taking longer than they were supposed to. Extra copies that still have to be manually reviewed. Copies of amendments that only occurred because people used the Non Filer return when they weren't supposed to. A non filer tool that only existed because the IRS was made responsible for the issuance of the stimulus payments. A responsibility that could have been avoided (and likely saved money) if they just have the payments to EVERYONE instead of putting an income cap on eligibility.

There are direct causes and effects at play here and they aren't remotely the ones Republicans think. And removing the funding to hire more employees will have a significantly negative effect on progress as opposed to the neutral effect of forcing us back to the office. Well, we'll spend more on gasoline and we'll be less happy, but it won't improve productivity.

Sorry for the rant, but it's a frustrating topic to consider, and that's to say nothing of the right wing talking points about us all being gun wielding bill collectors and that were supposedly hiring 80,000 people with guns. (Two things that aren't definitely accurate.)

I think one of the easiest ways of reducing medical costs is removing the burden of some medical licensing

This is statistically my most unpopular opinion. 98% surveyed approve medical licensing

That neither changes my opinion nor does it mean that espousing my opinion is ever really fruitful. It just is what it is.

Arguing that something shouldn't be unpopular is not helpful. You don't want to make it a big issue, you will get crushed if it becomes a focal point even if it is important.
