He was laying on one of the patio chairs, but I felt bad since he was shivering. So I took a chance and grabbed a blanket, but of course he bolted immediately once I opened the door. Still laid the blanket on the chair though, and I just peeked out to see he's back and seems to be sleeping a bit more comfortably.

Sadly I don't have any food to leave for him and stores are all closed today. And I doubt I'd be able to coerce him to come inside, he'll just run the moment he hears me. Poor guy :(

You can put out a box with some old clothes or some towels inside so he can have a spot that's a little warmer!

Is this an adult or a baby

Looks like an adult, but a young one, maybe around two? I'm no expert. He's a black cat too, super cute!

The box idea is a good one, I have plenty. Though I am periodically checking on him and the blanket seems to be working for him well enough for the moment. He looks content. I don't wanna disturb him.

Feed him if you have anything like fish or chicken (I interpreted your post as having no cat food, so that's an alternative). Eventually, he'll start to trust you. When he does, hold out your hand for him to sniff.

You can also contact your local cat rescue and see if they have any pointers (or availability, if you can't take care of him). They're professionals at this. May be tough getting in touch with them on Christmas, though.

I rescued a stray black cat a couple months ago. He was incredibly friendly, though, and the circumstances were obviously a lot better. I don't have anything to offer that hasn't been said other than try to satisfy Mazlowe's Hierarchy of Needs as best you can. Anything meat-like is at least an option. And hopefully a blanket within a box is enough for him to keep warm.

Well he was still there this morning, he slept on the chair all night long. Thankfully the temp is back up to around 40 degrees and it's sunny so I'm not too worried about him being cold. I was definitely concerned about him not eating so I went to get some food for him.

No surprise he ran away the instant I opened the door, but I left the food and some water out as well as an extra little bed for him. He came back once already so I can only hope he'll be back again!
