Topic	There's a stray kitty on my back porch, can I do anything for him?

Eventually, he'll start to trust you. When he does, hold out your hand for him to sniff. You can also contact your local cat rescue and see if they have any pointers (or availability, if you can't take care of him). They're professionals at this.
