Fever Remix 8 or 9

if we're excluding remixes and just looking for singular games, then one of Love Rap, Wrestler Interview, or Air Rally

but i've only played Fever and the 3DS one and i don't remember much from that one

Functionally, probably either Flipper Flop or Air Rally. But I like to just play the games for the music, and I really like listening to Space Dance.

I tried to do a ranking of all the rhythm heaven games once and I had a lot of trouble picking #1 actually

Munchy Monk, Love Rap, and Flipper-Flop are all contenders

I never played Rhythm Heaven but I have no idea how they work just based on watching the gameplay. There's no GUI.

There's a tutorial before (almost) every Rhythm Heaven game that teaches you the rules; some are more visually obvious than others, and they all have feedback for when you miss, so if you watch a perfect run of Rhythm Heaven it kind of looks like nothing is happening sometimes. Generally speaking, there will be some player character/object on screen that is controlled by button presses at the right time, with the 'right time' being defined by each separate game - oftentimes it's a call and response thing.

There's basically only one input in each case. You just have to press A (ocasionally B or A+B)at the correct timing. Each minigame has a tutorial that teaches it to you, you're just not seeing it if you're just watching gameplay of the main level.

It's easier to see what's going on by watching vids of the DS minigames, you can see the inputs being entered on the right screen with the stylus.

One choice, gun to my head, I'd probably have to say Space Dance. I like the song, the characters, the silly engrish.

Some of my favorites from each game:
GBA: Rhythm Epilation, Toss Boys, Space Dance, Power Calligraphy, the one with the bouncing balls which I can't remember the name of.
DS: Munchy Monk 2, Karate Man, Rhythm Rally, Spashdown, Moai Doo-Wop (yes, really)
Fever: Ringside, Bossa Nova, Flipper Flop, Board Meeting, Cheer Readers
Megamix: we don't talk about this game

I kinda want to gush about that GBA game for a minute. It's a shame it never released outside Japan, since it honestly might be the best one. I can (and have) gone from a fresh save to all perfects in a single sitting. Partly because it's way easier than the other games and partly because it's just so fun to play.

I don't hate Megamix, but I do think it was kind of awkward and a huge missed opportunity to make the definitive Rhythm Heaven game

lack of tsunku, easy baby-mode versions of songs instead of harder ones, no rhythm toys AT ALL, only a single new endless game, one of the cheapest and worst localizations Nintendo has ever put out, which is especially notable after all the love that went into localizing Fever.

More subjective critiques are that I hate how they did away with the iconic grid-based menu. I also don't care for the awful story featuring a bunch of random nonsense characters. Like imagine instead of a weird teddy bear trying to get back into heaven, we got a story featuring the characters from the actual games.

There is a shocking lack of reverence for the older games. They even retconned the actual Rhythm Heaven itself, removing it from some of the backgrounds and results screen images.

the best part of rhythm heaven (imo) is the late-game remixes that combine games freely. the DS ones are good but Wii remixes 8 and 9 are just the absolute pinnacle. Final remixes are very neat but the fact that they use each game just once for a few moments prevents them from being as well put-together.

And Megamix, which I was hoping would have more of that type of Remix... has... none. Because Remixes 8 and 9 are just compilations that use each game for one moment. They do have a few moments where they do neat things using a game a couple times but only a few. So it was a huge disappointment.

i do really like the chameleon game in megamix though it'd be up there as a contender for my favourite. shame its easy and doesn't get a second version but i really like it. megamix isn't bad, it's just a lot of missed potential and I'd basically always recommend someone play Fever as their first rhythm heaven game so it sort of failed at its main purpose...

Huh, I had no idea Megamix wasn't loved. I would've bought it by now if it wasn't printed in such limited quantities (or if it was ever on sale these days!).

Yeah, it's not even that Megamix is bad - it plays well, it has good remasterings of old games, it's got plenty of features, and the few new games it adds are mostly solid. But too much of its new content is easier versions of old games with unmemorable music, there aren't enough v2's of old games (and some of the ones they picked are dubious), and the remixes are subpar, so the overall selection of games ends up feeling not as robust as it ought to. I agree with Dels that Fever just has a tighter selection of games and remixes. It's still worth playing, but it falls short of being the definitive Rhythm Heaven it could've been.
