For me it's Radio Flyer.

Anyone remember that movie?

I'm going off by memory but here's what I remember.

Tom Hanks plays a dad and tells his kids stories about his younger brother. He explains that his little brother would get abused by their step-father, but Tom Hank's character said he wouldn't get abused. It was probably because their step-dad saw the younger brother as weak. The brothers would talk about building a plane and getting away. They start working on turning a wagon into a plane. Then one day their step-dad beats the younger brother so bad that he gets sent to the hospital. Later in the movie, the younger brother recovers and Tom Hank's says he and his brother were able to successfully build their plane. His little brother flies away safely to another home and they actually show it to you. At the end of the movie Tom Hank's says to his kids something like "Yeah my brother got away... at least that's how I'll always remember it." Some people interpret that line as the little brother dying after being sent to the hospital.

Fuck.

Chills. I had had sort of had this movie as background one time as a kid. I hadn't understood the ending at all until now. That's fucked up.

This topic made me realise a movie has never made me cry it takes a series or tv show to get me emotionally invested. Though the closest was toy story 3 cos multiple movies and I was a kid and I thought they were all gonna die

Saving Private Ryan.

The ending really drove home the significance of the sacrifices made, why they were made and whether the person in question was deserving of said sacrifice. There is no glorification of war and the focus is solely on the characters.

It's one of very few movies to move me emotionally as I don't respond to movies or media like that very often, but it hits a sweet spot for me that it likely doesn't for other people.

There can easily be an argument made for movies that are objectively more miserable than the likes of SPR, but I go by what moves me personally, and SPR was it.

Tied closely with The Green Mile. Another shout out to the likes of Warrior, which I felt was quite an emotional film.

Hachi is the only movie to ever make me cry in front of other people. Shout-out to dogs.

Yeah. When asked if his journey across the ocean with the tiger and all the shit that happened was really true, Pi offered an entirely different explanation involving cannibalism and the death of his mother that was bleak enough to the point that the initial insurance investigators decide neither is satisfactory but go with the tiger one because the second is just messed up. The journalist asking him about his life's story, who also decides to go with the tiger story as the one that happened, notes that the more fantastical story with Pi and the tiger has many parallels with the bleak and depressing second story, indicating that the second story is based in at least some truth, and perhaps is actually the whole truth.

No, a sadistic chef who survived the shipwreck killed Pi's mother and a sailor that all made their way onto the boat Pi was on, using the two as food, and Pi killed the chef in retribution, dining on some of his flesh and using other portions of his body as bait for fish.
Or perhaps not, maybe a hyena which survived the shipwreck killed an orangutan and a zebra that all made their way onto the boat Pi was on, and a tiger later killed the hyena and dined upon it.

That "snow" is actually 100% asbestos.
Almost a snuff film. Judy Garland was sexually harassed and put through an insane diet. Several actors had permanent damage from the aluminum make up.

There is no joke, the original tin man got poisoning from his makeup that permanently fucked up his eyes, that snow is pure asbestos, they forced Judy Garland to stay on a diet and forced her to take pills to keep that diet up, and the munchkins were all sex pests that put their hands up Garland's skirt when they had the chance as if the aforementioned diet and the director slapping her around wasn't enough shit she had to deal with.

Yeah, originally they had a different actor, but in the same wisdom that led them to using fucking asbestos for snow, they painted him with pure aluminum, which he was inhaling during all of his scenes he was filming, which quickly gave him aluminum poisoning that needed him to be sent to the hospital and turned his skin blue like a goddamn smurf for a bit. And since the people working on the movie were truly upstanding individuals, they promptly fired him when he was unable to work due to his sickness. And it turns out I had my details mixed up slightly, the previous tin man got poisoned, but the second tin man was the one who had his eyes fucked because they were still using shit makeup, albeit slightly less shitty makeup.

The Wizard of Oz is a fantastic movie, but knowing about the behind the scenes stuff nearly makes it as easy to watch as something like Salo sometimes.
