Ok took a second to read the article no that is another case still going, this case is just a reason why our legal system is a joke. He is estimated to have liquid wealth around 100 million. So they're going to fine his company 1% of that.

I don't understand how these penalties don't scale on the wealth of the people/corporations involved.

Considering those indirect bonuses seem almost a standard across major corporations and organizations, the whole thing seems silly. For some reason, I thought it was about something much bigger. But, I guess, the NY AG will try to use whatever they can to attack Trump.

He's not going to be upset they are getting fined less than 1% of their networth for violating the law. He's going to be upset his fascist leader who wants to end the constitution is facing the law to begin with.

$1.6 Million seems... like pocket change. Is that it? Will that even cover the money he saved with all the tax fraud..?

He raised $24 million just this quarter. He also raised $240 million to "fight the stolen election" and did exactly nothing with that money, so even if he was in trouble over that we all know he could pull it from his base.

Oh yes, plus the taxes. Crushing blow.

It would be fascinating to do a psychological study of people who still work directly for him seeing how almost everyone he touches either:
1) Doesn't succeed or
2) Becomes his fall guy for something i.e. the organization guy or
3) Leaves early enough to simply get insulted
...is that not abundantly clear by now? Is the draw of potential wealth/power THAT enticing?? (Yes, I know the answer to that question, but still...)

by he do you mean Donald j trump or the trump organization.
under the law they are two entirely different entities.

if Donald j trump can be shown to have comitted acts Of tax fraud AS AN INDIVIDUAL Then that is a diff story and diff investigation for which this can possibly pave the way to.

i have read opinions about how this could potentially bar trump organization from doing business with government entities and possibly financial institutions.

the ramifications would seem more than just the tax penalties themselves.

it certainly opens the door for it. This conviction of the entity makes it a lot more likely.

Everyday American makes a mistake with taxes: jail time plus possibly a fine.
The obscenely rich do something blatantly illegal: MAYBE pay the equivalent to five bucks for the rest of us, no jail time.

Riiight...

The fines are just the slap on the wrist.

So how directly politically motivated do I/we think it is/was? Would this investigation have occurred if Trump were never President? I'd love to see the guy go down in flames, but I have to assume that the increased attention triggered the investigation to a degree (Trump will always go the unethical route if possible/profitable, but other companies do this same crap without prosecution).

Point being: was there a 'strategy' to the investigation? I don't think so other than to understand how far the rot went given clearly unethical actions from the Trumpster elsewhere. The investigation had very little chance of ever directly barring him from office.

He became president and then immediately began operating a criminal administration. He was always going to fall under higher scrutiny for how illegally he and the people he surrounded himself with openly operated with the eye of the entire world focused upon them.

Yes, that's more or less what I was trying to say. I just didn't like the thought that the investigation itself had a "strategy" looking towards future elections/etc. Democrats certainly had/have hopes coming out of it but I don't believe the legal process investigating Trump is as corrupt as he is.

In this case, it's probably to ban his org from doing business in New York.

And yeah, they might have a small bias against him as he's been actively trying to overthrow the government.
