Depending on how he was trained, I'd assumed if he didn't regularly use two, then it wouldn't have been much more of a benefit

But all Rey had to do was make an x with her light sabers and Palpatines lightning killed Palpatine for Rey.

Mace would have defeated him if Anakin hadnt intervened. Thought that much was obvious.

Palpatine was clearly fucking around 1 on 1 with Mace. With his lighting being reflected back by 2 saber Rey he died in like 10 seconds.

No, all he had to do was stab him instead of acting like a moron and talking to Anakin and then raising his lightsaber like a fucking idiot.

Ugh, whenever I read that, I imagine Palpatine plowing some random chick, screaming about ultimate power.

But yes, she is Papa Palpatine's descendant.

I mean, it illustrates the Jedi's sheer arrogance, which was ultimately their downfall.

Instead of using all tools available at their disposal to properly address the greatest threat in a millenia, they still didn't want to treat Palpatine as the threat he was.

(realistically though, since they were prequels, there was only so much you could do)

He knew Anakin was gonna show up and would kill Mace, which would be his point of no return and basically force him to join Palpatine.

Let's be real, after everything Palpatine accomplished, decades of planning and everything he did literally right under the Jedi councils nose, he would let himself be caught in that situation if he wasn't either sure that Anakin would kill him, or that he could kill both if push came to shove?

Also, I don't really remember but wasn't Palpatine like half a clone body when Rey killed him? I doubt he was even near the level of strength he had when he fought Mace.

at least 80% of the plot of the new trilogy is lost on me.

I think I'll always find it amusing how the whole "did Palpatine throw the fight with Mace" debate became kind of like the prequel series' version of the "did Han/Greedo shoot first" debate.

Characteristically speaking, there's a clear answer in both cases; yet they will be debated until the ends of time anyway simply because the films either never make it 100% explicit, or in the case of the Han/Greedo debate, they flip-flop on it endlessly between editions.

Because frankly, even if it was George Lucas' intent to show Palpatine almost be defeated, it makes absolutely no sense that after everything he had done up to that point he would blurt his plans to a Jedi and then say to himself "Welp, guess I'll go lounge around my office for a bit"

Rey beat Palpatine because she had the support of "all the Jedi" backing her up at that point. Having an extra saber had nothing to do with it.

Rey was "all of the Jedi." On his best day Mace could only top out at 3/4 of the Jedi.
