What is there to be furious about? The absence of a main character from the previous movie from the trailer?

Absolute shit-tier name.

That's the entire point of trailers. To manipulate scenes in ways that make even shit movies look good.

Once upon a time, everyone saw the Phantom Menace trailer and thought it looked like an awesome movie...

...and then we saw the actual movie.

I do. Mostly because the combination of a) an action hero lead that looks like a great-grandpa, b) constantly pushing the setting forward in time to justify him to the point where it completely breaks the entire genre the films are supposed to be rooted in, and c) Disney creative in general being a massive clusterfuck these days means that I can't imagine any scenario where this film is going to turn out to be even remotely watchable, let along good.

Honestly, at this point they'd be better off recasting Indy so they can go back and do stories in the 30s (or earlier, like the Young Indy series did). Sure, people would complain that it's not Harrison Ford (see also Solo), but the alternative is that people are going to complain about how old he is and how bad the movie is, so it's pretty much a no-win scenario regardless.

If Hollywood wasn't so obsessed with cannibalizing and corpse-fucking every successful franchise of the past, I'd say they'd almost be better off letting the brand name die entirely and just tell similar stories with different characters (I may be one of like 3 people on Earth who would have been absolutely fine if they'd eventually segued to Mutt being the new lead, but I mean more along the lines of how Tomb Raider and Uncharted are basically channeling the spirit of Indy without having to explicitly BE Indy).

I know there'll be people who'll go see it no matter what just because of their nostalgia for what the franchise used to be, but there's absolutely going to be a law of diminishing returns here and I think we've long since hit it in this case.

About the only positive I can see is that they finally pried the writing out of George Lucas' insane grip, but that didn't necessarily work out well for the Star Wars movies, so it's no guarantee of anything good here either.

They should get the same guy who did Solo to make new Indy Moves. I didn't see solo, so maybe he was awful, but from what I remember he basically got the part because they tried to make him look as much like Harrison Ford as possible.

Even that would be better than what this looks like.

This. Hell, we already have proof it works, with stuff like The Mummy and National Treasure being popular, very much in the same genre-type, without straight-up aping IJ entirely (and Tomb Raider and Uncharted and other films, to a lesser extent). We already have proof that we can maker good Indian Jones-esque movies.

But yeah, I'm sure I'll end up seeing this, but I have no desire too. The character of Indiana Jones is young and strong. 80-year old Harrison Ford has roles in many movies (see the upcoming Yellowstone), but old Indy ain't it. Never mind whatever story mess they come up with. It *not* being Lucas makes me have zero hope, since every franchise Disney tries to take over ends horribly.

RedLetterMedia did a really good job in their Crystal Skull review to kind of sum up why "old Indy" is so anathema to the entire appeal of Indiana Jones in the first place.

Hopefully it doesn't suck, but there was a strong rumour that test screenings were extremely poor.

There are so many special effects being used in that trailer to make 80 year old Indy look like he can still move like he did when he was young that it's uncanny.

One last adventure to send the character off on a higher note than 4 did would be nice. Now, as jank as Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was, it did have a sweet little ending w/ him marrying Marion. Hoping we get a good explanation why his wife and son are nowhere to be found in this one though.

They should kill him off in this movie. Then either create a new character to replace him, recast for a younger version, or don't make any ever again.

From the sounds of things, the main reason both of the last 2 movies were made was because Harrison Ford wanted to do another one so badly.

if it were someone else playing Indy, Im not sure if it could be made as easily

Maybe they can finally do that after this film. It was stupid anyway that the franchise was basically fallow so many years.

If they had picked a better choice for Mutt -- and done something less on the nose than "Mutt" -- that might've been a good plan. However, they dropped the ball in every regard.

Yeah, that's the other major saving grace, considering Crystal Skull was pretty garbo.

So apparently, before this movie was announced, or it made public it existed at all, there were rumors that there was an Indiana Jones movie in the works that dealt with time travel, and Indiana Jones would travel to the past, and be erased in the past and a young women, his apprentice or something, would take up his mantle and replace him, which is how they'd continue the franchise without a straight recast.

And now there are rumors, that the test screening was a disaster, and they are now reshooting things.

Again, rumors.
