At least Trent Dilfer was coaching a title winning high school football team before this. It's not like he was plucked off the set of ESPN, like they do in the NFL.

UAB was my go to school for NCAA games when me and my friend would start a season at the lowest ranks and see who could get into a major conference team and win a championship first.

Seems Ohio State won't be picked for the Rose Bowl if they don't make the playoffs. I'm actually happy about it for 2 reasons. Firstly we have played the possible opponents recently in the Rose Bowl. Secondly because I think that sends us the Orange Bowl and I can get tickets and drive down for that

So who would the Rose Bowl take? Would they take a non-Big Ten/Pac-12 team? I know they generally don't like to do that if they can avoid it.

From what the articles have said they would take Penn State.

There's some sort of disclaimer in their selection criteria that allows them to skip over similarly ranked teams to create more interesting matchups. Given that Ohio State played Utah in the Rose bowl last year and Washington a few years back, I get it. I had personally been disappointed to see our likely matchups before I read that too.

Apparently Ohio State had also asked to be skipped over in the selection process but that could be just saving face.

They really should just do away with tie-ins for bowl games which I guess they basically have with the expanded playoffs

Oh right, I forgot Penn State was up there in the rankings. It just doesn't feel like they've had a top ten type of season.

That's what happens when you are the clear third best team in your division and that division isn't in the SEC.

No one considered them a real contender with Michigan and OSU so they didn't get any CFP or even big 10 title talk and basically got ignored except for being a good win for both the other schools.

By product of the Big Ten divisions being ass with all the best teams on one side. Hopefully sorts itself out in a few years

Like Purdue are only making the championship game because the other teams around them in the standings had to play OSU and/or Michigan whilst they dodged both (and lost to Penn State). And even then they only have the 4th best record in the Big Ten

Yeah that's why they are scrapping the east/west divisions when USC and UCLA join in 2024.

I feel like every conference will scrap divisions eventually. I know the ACC is getting rid of them next year.

The reason for divisions and purposely stacking your best teams in one side was because they didn't want their best team taking a potential loss in the championship. And it opened up the possibility for a 2nd team sliding into the playoff due to not having to take the potential loss.

It's why Clemson and Florida st were paired in the acc. The thought was they would both go undefeated besides who ever won between them. Then they would both make the playoff together.

No one in their right mind considered Clemson a potential undefeated team when the ACC went to 12 teams and divisions.

The Rose Bowl apparently wants to skip Ohio State because the fans won't travel. They didn't sell out their ticket allotment last year. Penn State fans might be more excited to go to the Rose Bowl.

The Ohio State fanbase at this point is "if we don't make the playoffs it's a failure of a season" so yeah they aren't traveling for a non-playoff game.

I'll travel to the Orange Bowl but fuck traveling to California. I don't even like traveling to California when works sends me and pays for everything.

It looked like USC was threatening to run away with this, but Utah has turned things around after forcing that FG.

honestly I feel like taking the Colorado job is a mistake, that's a program that's hit rock bottom and is in desperate need of a rebuild

I know the transfer portal makes getting good new players easier than it used to be but I sure hope Deion isn't expecting to be good right away

Utah leads 40-24 after missing the Extra Point.

Utah's Defensive Coordinator is incredible at adjustments. Has he ever been considered for a HC job? He looks fairly young.

Also, as this is typed out, Utah scores again. USC mentally beaten, then physically overwhelmed. 47-24 in favor of Utah.

Utah has outscored USC 44-7 since holding USC to that FG early in the second quarter

that really did seem to be a turning point since USC's offense was rolling up to that point

Utah is officially Back-To-Back Pac12 Champions. Once they shifted the momentum, everything went their way.

Kudos to that team for the incredible effort to pull that kind of win off.

Keep Alabama out of the playoffs. They shouldn't even be ahead of Tennessee, but they are because their two losses were earlier in the season.

The committee's rationale that they have "better losses" than Tennessee is stupid because one of them was to the Vols and the other was to a team we beat by 27.

Also this isn't a great Alabama team. LSU proved not to be as great as was originally thought (and UGA will put any remaining doubt to rest today). And if Tennessee doesn't literally drop the ball inside their own 10 yard line on a botched handoff for Alabama to just pick up and walk into the endzone, that game doesn't come down to the last play. Everyone conveniently forgets that part...!

This is an average team with an amazing QB, as nearly losing to A&M without him demonstrated. I think Bryce Young is incredible and my respect for him has only grown watching him drag this offense to 10 wins this year.

Alabama absolutely shouldn't be in over Ohio State and shouldn't even be ranked above Tennessee. Tennessee beats them out on basically all the ranking criteria so it's baffling that they are have Bama above them.

Alabama has 2 ranked wins. 20 + 24.
Ohio State has 2 ranked wins. 8 + 21.

Alabama have 2 close calls (Texas, TAMU, Ole Miss) and even needed OT in one of them
Ohio State has no games like that. Their worst win is against Northwestern where they looked like shit but was played in extreme weather.

Alabama have 2 losses. To 7 + 14. And both of those teams have multiple losses elsewhere
Ohio State has 1 loss. To an undefeated team ranked at 2.

Yes Ohio State's loss looked worse than either of Alabama's losses but Alabama is A. Lucky to only have 2 losses and B. Didn't play anyone as good as Michigan. Whoever is ranked at 4 (even if USC had won) is a clear step below 1+2 resume wise.
