going from bottom to top since i think i'll be less biased if i don't listen to my nom first lol
i thought we already had wild arms (joking). anyway nomads is lush and has a kind of... i guess acoustic ambience i like and can generally respect. it's good bgm
see above tbh. neither is a song i'd expect to do super well but i like the sound of both of these songs

it's fun, it's comfy, it's cute. lonely rolling star is simply a song that makes me happy
it's a bit cliched, but the ro2 login theme really is the kind of song that transports you to another world

this is a kind of video game music that feels more natural to me than most. i'm not even sure what i mean by that, but i can say i do appreciate what it does. like most things today, it's good bgm
very stadium-feeling music imo. the intro makes me think of rasmus faber, and i like how it sweeps you along right into it. hagane is good at maintaining a sense of... not really tension, but like engagement i guess? it's high energy without ever really going overboard, well-paced

I'm not big on TWILIGHT tbh. Melody doesn't capture me and the overall instrumentation isn't anything special either. It's an alright, inoffensive song, but that's it. Human Theme is significantly more interesting. I like the piano samples especially. Nice ambient effects as well. Cool song that's definitely getting my vote.

Intro Theme is probably my favorite video game song by Kanno honestly. The strings are absolutely gorgeous, the harp combined with the mallet percussion add an incredible texture to the piece, the snare is awesome in the second half, the children's choir is beautiful, the melody is basically perfect, and everything about this composition is just awesome to me. It would take probably XCX for me to vote against this song, and even then it wouldn't be certain. LONELY ROLLING STAR is a cute song with some neat synths throughout. Vocalist is serviceable. Good song that I'd vote over most of the other songs today, but not Intro Theme. Also, since Kanno is relevant here, might as well shill my Kanno guessing game I'll be running tomorrow evening in the b8 server at 7PM EST if any of you wanna join for that.

Hidden Caves Level 1 is pretty interesting, but it's not really something I'd go back to. I like the hand percussion in the background of this one. Nomads is super beautiful. It uses a lot of traditional instruments throughout that I like, including mandolin (banjo-sounding plucked instrument), bouzouki (other plucked string instrument), morin khuur (Mongolian string instrument played with a bow), and khoomei (Mongolian throat singing). The melody is really good, and it's just a fantastic composition all-around. Easy vote here.

LRS was once in my top 10 favorite VGM tracks and while I can't speak quite so highly of it these days, I can't deny that it is incredibly formative and would contribute greatly to the expansion of my music taste going forward. Loved the slate today

Human theme isn't gelling with me today. Stuff like Cotton I need to be in the right mood for; right now, at halftime of the England/US match, I apparently am.

Second match closer than I thought it would be. I wound up really digging the rocking wave motion of the intro song today. Went back and forth a lot on this choice.

So much for finishing during halftime. I am not a frogger fangirl. A froggirl? Yeah. I'm not a froggirl. Good to know. Nomads very western to me, especially with the whistling, but I guess cowboys isn't that different from nomadic tribes maybe? Mongolians might take offense to that, I dunno. I mean there's definitely also some vibratto strings that "feels" Chinese to my ears, but I dunno where it's originally from. At any rate, to me, it sounds like a cool mishmash of traditions to create a new whole, which I love, even if I recognize that might not be how the composer thought of it / how it should be thought of.

HAGANE is here again, so an easy vote goes to Cotton for this. However, that shouldn't downplay the neat echoey atmosphere that Human Theme is bringing, I do enjoy it quite a bit.

Lonely Rolling Star, even if it isn't my top favorite from the Katamari series, is still pretty lighthearted and happy-sounding, which satisfies a mood I look for at least half the time. As for Intro Theme, there's something about it that I can't connect with too well, though the vocals do help it sound more distinct in my head.

Hidden Caves has some good ideas for ambiance going on, but I really wish it did more with what it's already setting up. Nomads has strong ambiance going for it and some real nice instrumentation.to boot, so it'll earn my vote here.

my feelings on the cotton soundtrack have been kind of mixed, but still reasonably positive. even the worst ones on the set are decent. i was happy to see rama make the field. i was stressed by the time it was nominated, but i listened to one of the songs and liked it. this one is cool, too. the mix of seedy griminess and mystery is great.

i feel bad for ho humming about the ro2 set until max tweaked it, only for it to face off against my favourite song in one of my all time favourite games/osts. i cannot feasibly see many situations where id vote against lonely rolling star, even though ro2 rolled a song i was very favourable towards.

this frogger song is neat. the texture of the song really pulls through. love the sounds that make me feel like i'm really in the middle of nowhere. if it weren't for lonely rolling star, nomads would be my favourite song today. really sad matchup to me, as hidden caves is a cool discovery.
