Felt this way when I played some of the original and still do now on Royal.

Mishima is this kid with nothing going for him that routinely got beaten unconscious by Kamoshida. But despite being in the same boat as Ryuji and Ann, who become friends from the circumstances, the group continues to treat Mishima like a weirdo and never make an effort to even, like, talk to him.

There are cutscenes where he just walks up to a couple of the main cast to say hello and they all act like a huge burden has been placed on them. He greatly looks up to all of them for having the power to save people like they saved him. But they push him away, which is exactly what turns what could've been a real relationship he had with them as a classmate into his parasocial obsession with the phantom thieves.

In the confidant dialogue, you only get extra points from feeding his delusion. Maybe the developers intended that to just be the option that makes Mishima trust you more, but in context, it comes off like you taking advantage of Mishima's vulnerability to keep him 'useful' as the fansite manager that gives you requests. This is reflected in the story too, as when the thieves are looking for a target bigger than Madarame they ask Mishima, only to be exasperated that they had to talk to him and didn't get anything out of it.

Normally Joker has dialogue to stand up for his confidant when they're attacked by someone else. This is true for Ryuji, Kawakami, Takemi, Yoshida, Chihaya, and Yusuke, just off the top of my head. But when the bullies come and call Mishima a zero, Joker just sits there and lets it play out.

And then, after all this neglect and scorn, while benefitting from the fansite, the moment Mishima asks for something selfish, the thieves decide they'd rather go through Mementos and blow up his shadow instead of fucking talking to him.

They never see him as a person or ally, just a tool or a nuisance. It's fucked up.

Mishima sucks

I wouldn't level his link if the ability wasn't so important.

I haven't done any of his confidant rank because the character is just annoying. Same reason I haven't touched Ohya or whatever her name is.

Mishima is an annoying virgin and he deserves to be dabbed on.

I like Mishima, I wish there were dialogue options where you can actually try to be his friend instead of an ass

The core group is Persona 5 is probably the lowest morality team in the series. They arent good people at all.

They don't even blow up his shadow in the end, they just tell it to get a grip and then he does lol

Ive always hated the gameplay mechanics for the social links. You only get rewarded for telling people what they want to hear instead of being your own person

The funny part about this is that he ranks up every time you see him, so you can absolutely be verbally abusive to him if you want to be and there's no repercussions for it.

Mishima's link isn't based on the choices you choose at all. his link owns because you can dunk on him and still level up. honestly it fucking annoys me that the right answer for everyone else is to be excessively nice. even if they give you an option that's actually kinda funny the girls just look at you like, huh? which isn't real life at all.

Not going to lie, I was very disappointed when you were forced to be roommates with him in Hawaii.

You do realize this most likely isn't in the Japanese script right? Localization teams tend to take weird liberties like this, I guess in a poor attempt to keep up with internet culture in this case.

Some things to note: only Joker and Ryuji were bois in the beginning, Ann forced herself into the situation, they told her to mind her business. It's not like they fawned over her to join in. Mishima had no persona, he had no use to them so for him to strongarm himself by setting up a website nobody asked for and talking about being their manager IS weird.

Imagine if you meet someone one day and help them in the course of helping yourself and they make a website praising you and texting you every day about how awesome you are, wouldn't you be weirded out?

Mishima also treated the PTs like they were his personal army, getting more and more emboldened as you progress his link, like wanting to put hits out on people he did not personally like and his shadow was a tell-all.

Honestly though its the worst with the gamer kid in Akihabara. Kid is just doing wrong shit and Joker has to back him up to score points instead of being the moral pillar he desperately needs.

Mishima is a weird confidant. He radiates incel vibes and his arc kinda mirrors the Phantom Thieves a bit except because he is optional, him getting a big head over the whole thing and trying to abuse his power wont necessarily coincide with the group losing sight over why theyre doing what they do to begin with.

I remember I started getting annoyed with us being a spineless yes man in persona 4. In 3 persona was still new to me and I didn't feel it was so bad.

But with 5 coming out a decade after 3 and 4, I definitely had no patience for telling confidants what they wanted to hear and just kept thinking of the rank up bonuses to keep me going

When I first started I confused Mishima with Yusuke since they're both blue haired and thought Mishima would join our party after growing a backbone and having a persona awakening so he'd be less gross. Instead he... yeah
