imo They are political prisoners. (In Florida) Anyone who has a felony conviction cannot vote and in Florida this is 10% of the adult population. If the Public Defenders Office got better funding imo that percentage would go down.

In Texas you cannot vote if you are in prison. Of course imo in Texas you cannot vote if you live in Harris County.

Dem states have early voting

Allow registration on election day
Do not require id

De Santis, Abbott and Kemp do not represent the people and would be voted out if people could vote.

This from 2018 says about 10% of the adult population (~1.5 million) was barred from voting at the time, but the article is about them having just passed a ballot initiative to restore voting rights to some of them. So it should have improved since then, but I'm not sure where it stands now.

Not everybody has a driver's license. Some poor people in very urban areas with public transit don't have them. Same thing with extremely rural areas where people don't need to leave their small walkable towns. Shitholes like Alabama do things like pass voter ID laws, then close all the offices that issue those IDs in all the poor and black areas (despite having passed a bond issue the previous year to keep those offices open). Republicans have been caught multiple times openly admitting that voter ID laws are specifically about suppressing the votes of people who don't vote for them.

This is misguided. Either you are unaware of the connection between taking away the right to vote and having De Santis as governor or you are happy with the results.

If you love De Santis, no abortion, no right to have a union and no need to vaccinate the public come out and say so

Because taking the vote is the only thing making it possible to have De Santis as governor.

Depends on what the habitual felony is.

Many people end up in a cycle of poverty and crime because the legal system only makes their lives worse.

If you don't think they're capable of making reasonable decisions, why are you letting them back out into society in the first place? You don't get to have it both ways. Either they've served their punishment and are free to rejoin society and all that comes with it, or they haven't been punished enough and you keep them locked up. But you have to pick one. And remember, poor decision making isn't against the law. It's not illegal to be stupid. Clearly.

If a citizen is walking free, they should be allowed to vote. Period. What they did in the past is irrelevant. It's already been taken care of. That's why they're walking free.

I don't agree with that line of thinking. It doesn't have to be all or none. Like I believe someone who has done several horrible things while drunk should be banned from drinking. Doesn't need to rot in prison their whole life. A special mark on their ID that marks them as unable to purchase alcohol. It isn't foolproof but neither is having a legal drinking age.

Registered pedophiles already have limitations on where they can live so it's not like we don't already do such things.

Y'know what? I agree. If someone is convicted of election/voter fraud, they shouldn't be allowed to vote anymore. Or did you mean that someone who's convicted of voter fraud shouldn't be allowed to drink alcohol anymore? Because I can't fathom a reason that someone who got drunk and ran a red light, hitting another car 30 years ago should somehow have voting restrictions placed on them for the rest of their life.

And for what it's worth, with the pedophile thing, those limitations expire the moment the offender is off the registry. So if their offense was deemed to only be severe enough to require registration for 10 years, then they can live wherever the hell they want once those 10 years are up. So yeah...literally exactly the same as non-pedophile offenses are treated. Once they've served the chosen punishment, they are free to rejoin society and all that comes with it.
