what we got lads. every single one of her vacations is to some harry potter themepark or get together or some shit. her next vacation is probably gonna be whatever harry potter shit they got up in washington DC. she of course has all the books (unless they came out last week and she hasn't heard). what can you get a 33 year old woman with a stable job that she already doesn't own

We don't know what she has already so it's hard to give advice, but like someone else said, either hit up Etsy... or get her something new. jfc, it's 2022, how are people still hooked on Harry Potter?

Uh... Tamora Pierce's take on magical education via the Magic Circle books is just straight-up better than Rowling's (not a high bar admittedly). 1 on 1 magical education for problem kids with PTSD who don't function in the standard educational system. The setting and characters aren't a fucking joke in those books so you don't have to deal with romance cringier than Twilight and slave race apologia sub-plots and instead get to focus on the good shit like learning to live with the trauma of being locked in a lightless room thinking you're going to starve to death, fighting off fucking pirate raids and arsonists and plagues and shit... and the magic is like... actually interesting in those books?

Hell, Pierce even does the power of love shit better than Rowling, and in retrospect I'm pretty sure that 3 of the teachers in those books were in a FMF poly relationship... how did I not notice how ballsy those books were before? Oh, no, I'm gonna have to re-read them, aren't I? It's been like 20 years... urgh... Man, now THIS is a series that deserves to be adapted to the screen. Holy shit, the more I think about it the more I want it. The world is cruel and unjust... and her Magic Circle books aren't even her most lauded ones.

What else? Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series. I introduced my nephew to those and he fucking *loves* them. Bought his own set of "necromancy" bells. It also has magical education though it's more background fluff than the focus of the books. Absolutely worth reading, they have a very distinct mood to them that sets them apart from a lot of other fantasy books with the same target audience.

I've heard Raybearer is good though I haven't read it.

There's Villains By Necessity but I think that's out of print so it might be expensive? A fun book though nothing phenomenal.

I remember liking Kristen Britain's Green Rider though I think sequels were written and I don't know about them. It's kinda like... Terminator, but fantasy edition, where the main character is being hunted by a murderous archer on horseback. Also there's an evil wall of doom. Neat.

Um... Tales from the Wyrd Museum Series wasn't bad as I recall. Had some genuinely gruesome death scenes I still vividly remember to this day. Makes interesting use of Norse and Christian religious references. It does not take place in a magic school, but it DOES take place in a magic location that is set "in the real world." Might be what you're looking for.

Harry Potter themed art stuff maybe if she's artsy. I have actually seen and bought some very detailed colouring books for my Niece who is 10 and loves Harry Potter. My sister is 33 and enjoyed colouring some of them too. She finds it therapeutic.
