It was a nice little vacation. Haven't socialized in like 10 years. I almost forgot I could have fun sober.

Unfortunately I'm back home where I don't have that. (Social life) gonna have to work on that I guess

That.

Even if you don't find yourself agreeing with the AA/NA mindset, you can meet people who are doing the same thing you are.

Nice. Its necessary sometimes, and the world would be a better place if treatment for addiction wasnt stigmatized. Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone has the courage to admit it and act on it.

Welcome back, I was thinking of you the other day. I couldnt remember if it was a 28 day or a 90 day program. Do you feel motivated to remain sober? Get a gym membership asap if you dont have one, it really helps.

Nothing profund. They just kept repeating the same bullshit. Coping skills. Learn what your triggers are (which i already knew)

They did convince me addiction is a disease though. I was always firmly in the it's a choice camp. But that knowledge doesn't help much outside making me more sympathetic to other addicts.

Some information they shoulda kept to themselves though is only 3% of people remain clean after only one time in rehab. The rest only 10% no matter how many times they go.
[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I plan to but I live in a small town in which a lot of people at rehab bitched that that usually entails 60+ year old men who's been sober for like 20 years. So that creates a barrier cause we just can't relate with each other.

Provided I can keep my motivation though I've become interested in yoga meditation and Reiki

28 day minimum. I could stayed as long as I wanted but it started to get repetitive not learning anything new and the had 3 parts. Detox residential and partial hospital. Those or us with good insurance went to residential then partial hospital. Those with poor went strait to partial hospital. Lot more people classes where larger so less group discussion more straight lectures and far more people being constantly negative

Admiting it is probably the only reason I got q job. I swear after reading the AA book that my boss has read it. It has a chapter on how employers should deal with alcoholic employees qnd she did almost exactly what it says. The part why I still have a job I assume is it says if they admit they have a problem give em q chance if not fire them

Alcohol. I used to do drugs though. It's what I believe led to my addictive behavior onto of a few other variables. I used to be fine with drinking only once or twice a week. After drugs it became 3-4 times a week then it became daily after I ended up having to come home to a empty home everyday working 12 hours a day 6 days a week.

20-30 shots of Jack daily for 2 years averaging 4 hours of sleep working 12 hour days. Don't recommend it

Was told if I came to work smelling like alcohol again I could lose my job.

Then got told I'd better be prepared to stay at work for 3 days straight cause of a hurricane and I knew I couldn't go that long without. Withdrawls from booze can cause seizures and even death. I work around inmates not in cells. Dangerous combo

Shaking hands, sweatiness, nausea, insomnia, a feeling like you're wearing a really tight headband?

Oddly I handled myself better than a lot of others who drank less and far younger than me. I had shakes trying to go cold turkey. With meds I was fine. Others had bad shakes even with the meds.

One was a substance abuse counselor herself. Glad she caught herself young she was incredibly bright and well put together I honestly couldn't picture her drunk

The best way I understand it (because the exact mechanics are some full-on neurologist shit and I ain't that) is that alcohol abuse messes with the GABA in the brain. GABA is meant to slow down your nerves, in essence.

When you get physically addicted to alcohol, your brain becomes used to a given level of sedation, so your GABA is getting less of a workout.

Then you lose the booze, the body overcompensates, and suddenly your nerves go from a 2 to a fucking 40.

That shows anywhere from the shakes to seizures.

Again, not a neurologist, this is just the best way I understand it and explain it to clients.

Moreover, that reaction will not get better with time.

By the time I quit, I would go into full physical dependence if I drank more than two days in a row, and the withdrawals were days-long affairs.

I haven't had a drink in just shy of three years. If I started tonight, it would happen exactly like that regardless of how long it's been.

I'm currently working to get clean from medication. I'm sick and tired of using Suboxone as a crutch. Just over a month clean.

I know it's not drinking, but reading positive stories helps me and I wanted to share.

No. I've never knowingly drank and drove. In hindsight I realize I was likely still under the influence after sleeping considering the amount I drank vs how little I slept.

14 hours after drinking I still blew a .02 when I walked into rehab. I normally only put 8 hours between my drinking and going to work.

I honestly didn't realize who this was at first. I don't always read sigs

Also forgot to answer one of your questions. Part of me wants to stay sober. Part of me wishes I could just keep it at a more controlled level aka only drink once in a awhile lime once or twice a month.

If I'm truly a alcoholic though that's not possible I'll just fall back into doing it every day eventually but the way they defined alcoholics in rehab didn't fit me. Like for example they said said addict isn't isn't addict cause they drinks or drug.. its how they behaves after they do that defines them as one... I don't act differently really. I talk more and talk louder. But hell get me comfortable enough around people and I'll talk more regardless. I just comfortable quicker drunk. But I've never done the big things that bring up. Prone to violence/anger. Stealing lying having a different personality altogether. I'd form some shit opinions while drunk as you've seen but that was me just not being able to think rationally and speaking on something I hadn't really considered while actually sober.

Almost wish that didn't do that cause if truly a addict the mind has ways of letting stuff like that into tricking the person into thinking it's ok.

To be frank I'm scared. Most people do relapse. Hopefully if I do ill stick to my guns and get the vivitrol shot. I ain't doing it yet though cause it's a monthly thing and I've heard mixed opinions on it but supposedly I can drink and still get drunk on it. I just won't feel drunk. Like I'd be feeling sober as a judge but get all the other negative effects.

As said I've never knowingly drank and drove. Even if I did start drinking again I have a far better idea of just how long it stays in your system now. Gotta allow at least one hour for every drink. And with my tolerance that basically means I better not drive for over half a day... I had the asinine notion 8 hours with at least a chunk of that sleeping was good enough.

I just always assumed I was just hung over.

If only I could smoke weed. That I've never had a problem walking away from if i needed to take a break or quit.

But hell I'm scared to smoke it now. Learned in rehab phentanal (spelling?) Being put in it is becoming more common.
