No amount of voice acting controversy will stop Bayonetta from gracing us with her presence once more! After literally 5 years since it was announced it's finally here with an entry that may be the best yet in the series in terms of bombastic and over the top moments, but also you can't help but feel it's being held back a bit by the aging Switch hardware. I'm sure Digital Foundry will go all in on that aspect. Either way it's an 89 so far through 40 reviews so far which is comparable to the previous entries of 90 for the first game and 91 for Bayo 2

When playing Bayonetta 3, much to my delight, I had no clue what was going to happen next at all times. I was absorbed, and between the crazy story, the environments, and the action system thats been refined through two prior games (and years of experience), I had very little downtime. Its pretty much everything an action fan could want.

Bayonetta 3 cranks up the chaos, improves the combat, polishes the level design, and adds a ton of new mechanics to the mix, making for the very best entry in this storied series to date. PlatinumGames has absolutely nailed it this time around, carefully layering on more ways to engage enemies, piling on the OTT gameplay sequences, and giving us multiple protagonists without upsetting the balance of what makes these games amongst the very best examples of their genre. With excellent performance in docked and handheld modes, incredible visuals, non-stop action, and a hugely replayable campaign that's a joy from start to finish, this really is a huge celebration of everything we love about Bayonetta, an action all-timer and one of the biggest highlights of 2022, on Switch or any platform.

I'm not sure whether it's because of the game's fantastic music, the use of the word "verse" to refer to encounters, or her over-the-top style, but when I think of Bayonetta I can't help but imagine her as a popstar. Bayonetta 3 feels like her Las Vegas residency: a lavish and spectacular show where each number is beautifully choreographed, every song is a banger, and the guest appearances are sure to delight. Its a fast-paced and joyous adventure that achieves its goals with an abundance of charisma and style. While it might have taken the better part of a decade to get here, the queen is back, and she's ready to serve.

Game Informer - 8.3/10
Bayonetta 3, for the vast majority of its runtime, is an absolute blast. It's bombastic, over-the-top, and extravagant for the sake of extravagance, leaving ruins, literally, in its wake. I'm already going back through each level trying for better scores, and I have no immediate plans of stopping. I may be hesitant about the series' future, but at present, this is the best Bayonetta has ever been.

Bayonetta 3 is an ode to the longtime fans who've stuck with the game since 2009. While it's certainly not without its obvious flaws and missteps, I can't imagine that fans would be very disappointed with how this third, explosive entry has turned out. The way is open for even more shenanigans and adventures set in this colorful universe, and it's exciting to see what our Umbra Witches will bring to the table in a new era.

Anyway very excited. I consider Bayonetta 2 to be the best character action game ever made and glad to see Bayo 3 is right up there with the other games in the series.

Wow those are really great scores! never tried the series because Bayonetta 2 was Wii U exclusive

But now I have a Switch and the whole series is playable on it so maybe some day
I liked DMC3 if it's similar I should enjoy it too I guess

Im just here to say that Bayonetta 2 significantly improves on 1. There is a reason when re-reviewed on Switch 1 fell to an 84 but 2 got a 92 again.

The main thing I liked more about 1 than 2 is that 1 had more big bosses. The big bosses in Bayo 1 were by far my favorite thing about the games. Hope 3 has more of those.

Bayo 2 feels really good for a super casual playthrough but totally falls apart when you start going for mastery IMO. Way too many enemies straight up don't stagger even to wicked weaves outside of Umbran Climax and randomly break your combos, witch time duration being both minimal and attack-specific rather than skill based is bad, enemies can't be relaunched outside of Umbran Climax, scoring is shot to hell because of combo decay changes coupled with Umbran Climax AND the weapons - while cool conceptually - generally feel anemic compared to the depth of Bayo 1's. Oh yeah, and torture attacks are almost completely pointless since you no longer get weapons to drop and that magic is wasted on killing a single enemy when you could instead clear the screen with Umbran Climax while also getting way more points towards your platinum.

I could go on, but those are the bigger points. It just really seems like there was a total lack of understanding as to why Bayo 1's systems were so strong.

Luckily even the earliest footage of Bayo 3 seems to indicate that they're addressing a lot of this. Bayo 2 utterly stomps the first game in presentation so I'm hoping we really do get the best of both worlds here!
