I just want to complain, but that's no fun without inviting others to do the same

I'm in a wedding party and the wedding is in Guadalajara.

Have to travel Edinburgh -> Amsterdam -> Mexico City -> Guadalajara

they also moved my flight to Amsterdam to be 5 hours earlier than what I initially booked making the layover there 7 hours

28 hours it's going to be by the time I get to my destination. really making my question if the friendship is worth it (jk I love her but imma be dead tonight and the next week basically)

so, complain about something recent yourself

I don't recall exactly how long our flight was but my honeymoon flight from Boston with a layover in Amsterdam on our way to Capetown, South Africa was over 24 hours. I want to say 26? Fortunately we were going for leisure and took a nice nap on our arrival. Weddings are a lot of work, even for the guests! Hope you have a good time :)

I'm a supervisor for a couple dozen truck drivers, but I'm not management. I have no "real" authority over the other drivers. My direct boss has power to hire, fire, reward, reprimand, etc. But I do train new drivers, act as a mentor, and provide information, as a bit of a go-between for the manager, who oversees dozens of drivers more.

I'm not supposed to have more than 20 drivers under me. I've been overworked through pretty much the whole pandemic. They finally promoted a couple drivers out in Connecticut so I don't have to oversee the CT crew any more, which cut my driver pool down to about 15.

One of my drivers has been slacking hard. I've always been of the mindset that everyone has a day here and there where they're dragging ass and just sorta coast for a day and take it easy. But this dude has been coasting for weeks. Our supervisor notices this. He wants me to speak with the driver. I'm under no delusion that I have any authority over this other driver, so this puts me in an awkward position. This dude can tell me to go fuck myself and there's not much I can do about it.

I make a plan to talk to him. Ask him how he plans his day. We have a bunch of locations (dealerships/auctions/salvage yards/ports/etc) we can deliver cars to and pick cars up from. He seems to go to just two of our customer locations regardless of how much work is there. Coincidentally, those are the two of the easier locations as they're the shortest distance from our yard and they're not as busy. Normally, we'd plan for a longer run for our day, and hit one of those spots at the end of the day if we have the time.

I mention several other locations have been much busier recently and that we could use his help at these spots. We can fit anywhere from 6 to 10 vehicles on our trailers, depending on what truck and trailer we're using and what type of vehicles we have to load. He's been hitting the two easy spots so often that he only has sometimes 2 or 3 cars to load. I mention this and inform him that this is not an efficient use of the truck, and that we should be aiming to haul a full truck as much as possible.

He became very agitated and and began questioning why I was bothering him and not other drivers. It was all I could do to not snap back "Because the other drivers are doing their fucking job!" but I held it together enough to remain diplomatic and tell him that I saw an opportunity to improve his route planning, and that my aim was to ensure efficiency among all drivers, not just him. I described how we typically save those two locations for "finish work" (which I'd explained during training), and that his routine of clearing those locations was impacting other drivers' ability to work a full day, as most of the longer runs amount to 6 hours of work at best.

He seems to have come around since. He still makes some odd choices when route-planning but he's improved a lot. I don't want to nanny other drivers, and I like our current team including this driver and don't want there to be any agitation or division between them. Other drivers had certainly noticed his prior behavior, which may have been how the supervisor got clued into it. But everyone I've spoken to seems to be on the same page so I hope it's all hunky dory now

The most annoying thing about my week, I would say, is my current performance at my job thus far. I'm frustrated with myself at the moment. I'm three weeks into my role, and I feel like I am already underperforming. I understand that at this stage in my tenure, not much is to be expected of me, since I am still figuratively learning the ropes. But there is a co-worker who joined alongside me who has needed far less guidance from her supervisors, because she listens during meetings. I, on the other hand, have a very hard time keeping still and committing to memory the information being conveyed to me. As a result, I have had to eat up the time of each subsequent meeting going over what I already should have done prior to the meeting. It makes me feel inferior, in a way. It is true that I take notes during these meetings. But I hardly ever utilize them; they are mostly just for show, to implicitly intimate to others that I am paying attention. Due to my failings as a poor listener, I am behind in terms of getting my test assignments done, since I'm unable to figure out what I must do. It's harrowing, trying to keep myself immersed in my surroundings, trying to keep up with all the technical jargon that's being thrown at me over again. It'sbeen a bad week for me. It doesn't help, either, that I suspect already that my co-workers dislike me, even though they maintain a friendly rapport with me during work hours. I'm just bad at listening to people talk. It makes me wonder if I'm fit for friendship and the like, if I'm unable to take interest in the conversations of others for more than a minute. It is likely true that most work-related material will not be interesting. Yet, it has not stopped my co-worker actively listening to it, and applying what she's learnt to her work. Right now, I'm berating myself for my inability to do the same.

I stay at work way over my time limit to have a couple beers with my co-workers. And because we left so late, I didnt get pizza plays night

And I still have a ton to do before I go on leave

Even when it offers the question during set-up, it will still complain later something is not working. Despite it having asked me and I had said no to it...

It snowed last night

I drove for about 4 hours on Thursday. It was exhausting but sounds like nothing compared to an over 24 hour flight with layover.

My chair broke and had an argument over it.

I then fixed my chair.

But the argument still happened.

Same thing as every week, the continued existence of spending a bunch of time working just to be able to fill my mundane life with mildly amusing diversions

Oh and work sucked extra hard this week

My mom brought me the wrong Mac and cheese while I was vidya gaming

I seem to have gotten better at flirting with girls, before when I tried I would just get a deadpan look or they got visibly uncomfortable but now they generally go along with it and I get smiles, laughs, and instead of looking uncomfortable they seem to loosen up when I flirt/tease girls now. I still get rejected though, it's quite frustrating when you think things are progressing but get the same outcome time and time again.

Muscles has to be a gimmick at this point. I don't know how you can be so obsessed with the idea of talking to women, let alone always saying you're making progress yet still not actually getting anything out of it

I mean, technically, it sounds like hes making progress Just not a lot

I wouldn't say I'm obsessed, this just feels like the only place I can talk about that kind of stuff, and other things I do care about I talk about on other boards/sites. I pretty much just come here to talk about that kind of stuff, some politics and the occasional trolling.

Most annoying thing this week was that i wasted my only full day off of the week by getting trashed for my friends 30th birthday last night and being hungover as balls all day.

yeah I regret coming to this wedding. Barely even spoke to my friend which is understandable it being a wedding but combined with the effort to get here and back...

way back I'm going Guadalajara -> Dallas -> London -> Edinburgh

had 4 hours layover in Dallas before my London flight. Delayed 1.5 hours. Then diverted to Houston (can't leave plane cause no customs at IAH) because weather. Missing my London flight by 30 minutes now.

Looks like my next options add 24+ hours

last week was rough due to the fires in the PNW. Not being able to go outside was rough and it just reminded me of my time abroad the last couple of years and it bummed me out.

This week has a strong start. Went to a Dr appointment but managed to get some pho afterwards and picked up Persona 5 Royal.
