Original art Umineko is the only real way to play.

As long as you aren't playing with the Steam/Pachinko default art.

And you want the voice acting either way.

Naw I get that but it's truly sublime VA work and adds a TON to the impact of a lot of scenes.

the bigger issue is that this would almost definitely stop me from even starting it, like it does with 90% of games that are over 10 hours long

it's long and the opening sequence is by far the worst part of the experience so you may not get past that anyway

It's basically 8 episodes that are around 8-12 hours each. Probably wouldn't take 120 hours unless you're a fairly slow reader. You can read one episode at a time if you like (that's the way they were released, basically an episodes every 6 months).

It took me 113 but I was listening to the VA work.

Also cried for like an hour overall so that's a slight tick up.

Voice acting didn't exist yet when I played Umineko! Hearing the performances sounds like a great excuse to replay it at some point but holy shit those games are already so long. Hearing 113 hours to listen to all the voicework doesn't surprise me.

Might do Higurashi before that - never actually played those VNs and have only seen the anime, so it might be cool to see how much of a different experience it is.

I really do like the anime but the VN is a much better experience overall. For Higurashi. Would highly recommend. Definitely play Ciconia as well. Also play Iwahime, though that's not paet of the sale since it's R07 but not actually 07th Expansion I think.

Ciconia is on hold indefinitely currently due to low sales/interest, sadly.

Hopefully he'll bring it back one day.

Ryuukishi's been writing for other things for a long time in between his own projects. One extra wouldn't cause him to put a series on hold like this.

Honestly I think this would be a better selling point if I didnt think the first two episodes were pretty bad.

I like recommending the death note anime to people who dont like anime because you know 2 episodes in if its your thing. 45 minutes in you can drop it.

I dont think I will ever fully endorse something where I have to say, but bunker down it gets good at the 25 hour mark

I remember hearing pt 2 was indefinitely delayed due to being too close to real life or something like that when Covid hit, but hadn't heard anything about it since

It definitely hurts!

N1RV Ann-A is in the same situation, though it sounds like that's due to the devs falling out from creative differences, so wouldn't be surprised if that never releases.

in the meantime he's been working on higurashi stuff and a vtuber so expectations were low even before this dropped

Probably worse since right now, unless these games turn it around, the Silent Hill brand is already a dead embarrasing joke.

Worse for me personally because I don't care about the Silent Hill franchise at all otherwise lel

Well maybe if it does really well Konami will be like "hey maybe reviving our old franchises is a good thing" and bring Suikoden back for real though (beyond just the remasters)
