I knew this time was coming sooner or later - devs always prioritize graphics over framerate. Pretty silly that it's happening with a cross-gen game though!

as long as it's locked at 30 it's not really a big deal at all.

I turned Spiderman to 30 FPS node after getting my 4k TV just to see how it looked and wanted to vom.

If 60 is avaikbke then 50 is intolerable.

I don't think I played Spider-Man in 60FPS in the first place. It was 30 on PS4, right? I hear it's an unusually well-disguised and consistent locked 30FPS, but it surprised me because it's an extremely face-paced and fluid game. I guess I'm hyper-sensitive to framerate drops, but I can adjust to lower locked framerates as long as it doesn't screw up the gameplay, such as how it does in fighting games.

PS5 not being able to handle Plague Tale is kind of surprising - the original game wasn't exactly heavy by any means. As far as I know, this one's still on the same engine and isn't otherwise too enormous of a leap graphically, is it?

I definitely DGAF about the resolution within reason. I have a fairly big TV but I doubt many games output visuals that look really nice in 4K specifically.

Seems like PCs are having trouble too? Saw a reviewer saying a 2080ti has drops to 30 on medium at 1080p.

But it's definitely a very good looking game, I thought. Not sure if just marketing, but it's supposed to have millions of rats on screen at once?

30fps is fine for a game until you switch to 60fps (if it has that option). Then 30fps feels like you're playing underwater in comparison.

I just finished Sable on a Series X and that game ran like hot trash. I'm not normally one to care too much about performance but that's a relatively simple looking game and it stuttered like crazy, with it sometimes seemingly dropping to single digit frame rate. Frankly it was unacceptable but I played it via Game Pass so that limits the pain.

Yeah, Sable is notorious for performance issues across all platforms.

30fps will ALWAYS provide twice as much rendering time as 60fps, so gamers will always demand it. It makes sense if you had a shitty rushed dev process to focus on the mode that players consistently prefer.

It has a unique graphical style which prob uses a lot of expensive rendering techniques so it makes sense. The team is small so they can't optimize everything to death. Big games like TLOU either use hyper-optimized techniques, or new techniques that some dev spent 2 years in a corner optimizing.
