we didnt have cartoon network in canada
but we did have 2 kids channels one being YTV and the other being teletoon
teletoon was kind of the canadian cartoon network but it wasnt as good and YTV was better
i loved watching YTV as a kid

anyway one year when i was young my dad installed an american satellite dish so we had the american channels
this was my first time experiencing cartoon network and it was amazing
better than teletoon and YTV
we didnt have that dish for long but i loved cartoon network. it showed marathons of cartoons like fantastic four and superfriends and i would sit there and watch

i was there for the early powerpuff girl short before it was made into a real series
where fuzzy lumpkins turned one of bubbles pigtails into a chicken leg and she got mad

Discovery Inc bought Warner and a bunch of other properties and were hell bent on changing them.

HBO was successful, very much so, but discovery said that the demographic needs to become more mainstream American, older and whiter (literally). They want HBO to focus on kardashians-style unscripted content too

then they gutted HBO max and took many existing shows off it for no reason.

they took over CNN and decided it needed to become more mainstream American, which in this context meant more trump friendly and they immediately fired brian steltzer.

now theyre killing off Cartoon Network too, because, how dare young people enjoy themselves?

these are poor financial moves, with social engineering and ideology as motivations, not even money, just ideology.

yes it is.

it is extra spiteful too. There is nothing liberal about young adults watching a TV show about a woman that has 3 dragons and a family that has a special connection with direwolves or a TV show about a weird anti-hero (peacemaker).

the HBO and Cartoon Network takedowns, unlike the CNN takedown, strikes me more as a fuck you, youngins kind of move from an old bitter psychopath

I miss Johnny Bravo and Dexter's Lab.

The former will probably never air in this social climate despite the fact he is portrayed as a doofus.

Also Ed, Edd & Eddy, Cow & Chicken etc.. The 90s and early 2000s line-up.

Steven Universe was pretty fun too the first few season but I dont care for current the Cartoon Network.

I first saw the unexpected reasonings back when Justice League was canceled.. apparently CN was okay with having less viewership with less popular cartoon in the slot as the cost to make the cartoon was slightly less.. even thought it wasn't anything that could be marketable/merchandisable.

Pretty much this. From what I read, the real villain was AT&T loading the properties with debt and mismanagement before selling them. Zaslavs just a hatchet guy / Lightning rod.

Furthermore, most stations nowadays are shells that show reruns of the same 3 shows the majority of the days

Discovery's base is like 55 red/45 blue. It also costs barely anything to produce.

Most other networks lean in uneven directions, so they spend lots of money, but often might cater to one only side.

Zaslav is trying to apply Discovery to all of WB. Expect a lot more of this stuff.
