There's no pain; your tongue just magically vanishes, leaving an empty spot where it used to be. I thought of this because when I went to the dentist and my mouth was numbed, it was so hard to push food around and chewing was incredibly difficult. He got it removed and lost his ability to taste and salivate. He also has a mild speech impediment now. If he can do it, I can.
