Turbine (TF2): A perfectly good map. There are lots of little crawlways and access points to the flag room, but it's so easy to cover with a sentry. If the enemy has more than one sentry in that room, sneaking in and capturing the flag on your own is simply impossible. That said, it's still a lot of fun to have the big fights in the center room, possibly because its geography doesn't allow for as many snipers as 2Fort's does.

USSR Flag: I understand that red became the color associated with communism, so you wanted a heavy red emphasis. And I understand that the hammer and sickle emblem represents the proletariat. I respect that. But this flag is so uninspired and bad. It's hard to read at a distance, it looks similar to the Chinese flag (which, granted, wasn't a problem until 1949), and the star represents the communist party itself. It's actively celebrating being a one-party state, which is something you would invent as a joke, except they just did it. Imagine being a Soviet soldier stationed at some neutral embassy across from the American soldier, and having to stand under your terrible flag while looking at his great one.

Six Flags Magic Mountain: I'll use the LA version of it, because it's the only one I've been to. I don't know why you'd drive out for an hour or two to visit an amusement park that isn't Disneyland. The most interesting thing about this park is that it's named for the six flags that flew over Texas: Spanish, French, Mexican, Texan, Confederate, and American. That's actually kind of neat, but there's no ride or anything here that I'd ever drive out to go to, unlike with Disneyland.

Putting a Flag on a Newly-Discovered Territory: Excellent tradition, meaningful, too. Can you imagine being a 17th century explorer? Your ship would have to have a bunch of extra flags in storage so the captain can dramatically hoist them into a newly-discovered island. Dall-E Results for this Topic: I'm a little surprised by how dominant the US flag is; nothing else is even represented. I like how the AI can't quite get the flag right, of course, and I have no idea what's going on with the center-right. Center-bottom is weird, but I have no explanation for what it is. Bottom-right is the most interesting, though, because it has all of those flags, but only one isn't American, and I'm not even sure of that. What is that red-white one there? Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag: I looked this one up, yes. I do think it looks better without the circle, but I understand that that has specific symbolism. Having more than half of the flag covered by the triangle part is... getting a little busy, to be honest. And leading the triangle with a red bar that touches the red bar of the main flag, but it's a slightly different shade of red, is an odd move. It's not that I have a problem with any of these things, but this really is breaking every rule about only having X number of colors. Does every color have specific meaning? Because the only ones I recognize are trans colors, of course.

I bet there's a lot of pushback on the grounds of 'why bother' or 'the new one might be worse,' right?

frankly i never saw pushback, i guess there was a silent majority somewhere though that actually didn't want to update it but yeah shrug

in truth, i feel like i get why none of the proposed flags won the last vote a few years ago, and that's because a lot of them had silver ferns on them and like... the one that won the preliminary vote had one too, but there were better ferns that one could've used

personally, the design i was rooting for was this one with a red, white and black style that kept the southern cross (stars) on it but dropped the union jack, and it would've also really benefited from a more detailed fern, so here's a vague low effort photoshop attempt of what it would've been like if it had one so i actually have something that can be rated lol

yeah the black on the fern doesn't really work that well here but it's a more detailed fern design otherwise and i'm too lazy to edit it, also yeah the edges were messed up a bit when pasting the red back on oops
