Proud boys tried to do a thing at psu last night, met with counter protestors, cops didn't do anything. The university knew well in advance that this was planned but didn't do anything to stop it ahead of time.

Skipping/cancelling the debate would have looked absolutely awful too. It was a lose-lose. Either he skipped it and it just fueled the notion that he's unfit to serve and couldn't even appear in a public debate or he attended it and because he's a human being makes any mistake which would immediately be promoted by the GOP and the media as a whole as "proof" that he's unfit to serve.

Polls had been tightening already to low single digits, so you're probably right about about it being lose-lose, honestly. Still, very disappointing. Hoping Fetterman pulls off a miracle somehow because that was very sad to watch.

I'll be voting Oz. Frankly, they both suck so the R gets the tiebreaker.

People acting surprised when I told you Biden would be my first D>R in 2020. The scoffing and talking down to people who are willing to crossover vote for your team... sorry "side"... is exactly what tends to drive potential voters away from you and also makes them no longer listen to your points.

I am a very slightly moderate conservative. I am probably as centrist as you are going to find in this polarized political world. My core values closer fall onto the republican side with some major crossover in some areas that are major platforms. I tend to vote Republican unless a clearly superior candidate is running due to either an abysmal Republican or a very good Democrat.

This race is two absolutely joke candidates. If I was inclined to not vote at all, this would be a great race to do it in. However, I'll suck it up.

As far as numbers, who cares about numbers right now. Republicans will hold the house. Nothing will pass the rest of bidens term again congressionally. Whether it's a Republican senate or not, doesn't affect this 2 years. None of bidens agenda will pass, and Republicans cannot defeat a veto. Doesn't matter if 52 51 50 49 48 47 46 Republican senators.

You dont care about the things the Senate can do without the House, like support or deny SCOTUS nominees?

I think that attitude is pretty unhelpful to the goal of getting more people to vote for Democratic candidates (and Im saying this as someone who absolutely thinks that Corrik should vote for Fetterman here). If the right is happy to accept converts while the left focuses on bashing people who vote with them some of the time for all of the other times that they dont, then of course thats going to push persuadable voters towards the GOP at the margin despite everything awful about their platform and candidates!

I think democrats have a huge purity test problem. We arent democrats is the unifying tent of the Republican Party and no matter how insane you are, republicans welcome you under that tent.

My arguments with republicans are a million times dumber, but my arguments with hard line democrats have much more frequently ended with personal attacks against me despite me being way closer to their point of view.

Had one zealot say I was in favor of child murder because I brought up that closing schools had terrible effects on poor kids without reliable internet during the pandemic

Corrik is a potential partial convert. Hes not gonna vote for the Democrat most of the time, but he did once and this is an opportuny for him to do so again because Oz is an unusually bad candidate. If a hundred people are in Corriks position wavering between Oz and Fetterman being nice to them is certainly not going to make all (or most) of them vote for Fetterman, but it might prevent one or two who were leaning towards him from being pushed back to the other side of the fence.

Anyone who hasn't given up on Trump at this point isn't really a potential convert. They're just people who might vote Democrat if the Republicans piss them off enough at the right time, and the wind is blowing in the right direction. But they still default to the Republican party. They might say "Both candidates suck!" But as true as that may be in some cases, they don't suck equally. And I'm sorry if I find it hard to be nice to someone who's totally okay with taking all my rights away from me so they can deregulate businesses and profit off it. And that's what ANYONE who votes Republican is totally okay with. I don't give a fuck how much handwringing they do. "Oh, I don't want them to take away X Right, but I'm still voting for them because I want a tax cut." That just means that they're willing to sell me out for money.
