One of my favorite book series is The Dark Is Rising sequence, a 5 book fantasy series. They eventually made a movie out of the 2nd book, but felt the need to drastically change things so it wouldn't be viewed as a Harry Potter ripoff, and the resulting movie was fucking terrible.
The books were written in the 1970's!

1 - Have to say I'm not remembering this.

2 - So...you're mad that the ethnically Chinese character has a Chinese name? Maybe her parents just weren't very creative when it came to picking a name.

3 - Fair. Tolkien kinda did the same thing with the dwarves, though, one of their primary motivations was money.

4 - Dumbledore was revealed to be less heroic and more 'ends justify the means', that was the point of his character, that eventually Harry realized how far DD would go.

5 - That was just support for the original Cursed Child actress.

6 - Wasn't really relevant to the story one way or the other.

She's really big on the "we have to protect autistic people from being tricked into becoming trans, the poor, stupid, gullible things" and "we have to protect cis women from rapists by not letting trans people use women's bathrooms" shtick, often citing studies that she either completely misrepresents, or "studies" that couldn't survive peer review in order to support her assertions.

I assume that the backlash over her most recent book is what caught your attention. It's a brick that revolves around an artist getting canceled by le woke mob and then murdered, and includes weird jabs not just at trans people, but at people with disabilities as well, but I think the thing that people are getting a real kick out of is that it has pages and pages and pages and pages and pages of fake social media posts, the poor formatting of which apparently makes the kindle version virtually unreadable (wonder if they've fixed that yet?). Personally I couldn't be bothered to even read them, but there are other parts of the book that are worth laughing at, some of them read like they're trying to parody Rowling instead of being her own writing:

Strike had no idea what the need for spoons referred to and assumed it was a piece of whimsy, possibly from some book or film he didnt know.

Fifteen, profoundly autistic, and convinced she'd found real friends online... of course she fell for it.

One really has to question why it is Rowling bothers to try writing books for adults if this is the level of quality she's hitting, lol.

I am reading more about this supposed Cho Chang naming controvery and supposedly the issue comes from the fact that Cho is a traditional Korean name and Chang is a traditional Chinese name and the complete name 'Cho Chang' doesn't really sound native to any particular Asian country.

So what? Rowling wasn't very good at coming up with authentic Asian names back in 1999? I don't see much of a controversy there.

You're better off just glancing at this page:

The simplest issue to point out is that it's two surnames from two different places unless you want to be really generous to Rowling and assume that she localized Zhou poorly.
End result is that the name comes off as Rowling using words that sound "vaguely Asian," and that also has some, um, problematic precedent.

People also take issue with Kingsley Shacklebolt, though I think that one is far more obvious in its issues to English speakers.

It's the Bobson Dugnutt of Asian names. It's not horribly outright offensive but it's a showing of the general laziness when it comes to writing anything outside her upper-class white British sphere.
