Intolerance does hurt people though. Being denied a job or housing, not being allowed to see your dying partner because your marriage isn't recognized, being denied medical services because the hospital is catholic and doesn't support your sinful ways, getting beat up or killed because of who you are or who you love.

It's normalized in the USA to throw your LGBT+ children out on the streets. Stigmatization/intolerance has severe, real-world negative consequences for people which the law cannot compensate for. Don't play dumb.

Rowling made her fortune on a book series about a young boy over coming abandonment and abuse to fight against prejudice and slavery. Then her audience grew up, realized the death eaters were never punished. The students who shared their ideas never had their minds changed. The slaves were never freed. A bunch of her characters are racist, like the irish dude who tries to transfigure water into rum and blows things up, the Asian descended character being named Cho Chang, or the Goblins being a Jewish caricature straight out of 1930s Germany. Her wise old teacher character that she wanted people to like ends up raising the hero in an abusive home so he would kill himself when the time is right. And when the series is over and people are starting to realize the ending to a book they grew up with ended so badly she tries to act woke by making announcements like Hermione is black and dumbledore is gay.

But those "realizations" only emerged BECAUSE she was disliked for other shit. They were looking for a reason or interpretation to attack her.

No idea what else she's said not pertinent to her books.

I've heard this 'issue' before too and I truly think that people are grabbing for any stick they can find to beat JKR around the head with. Look at Kingsley's actual character and role in the books (spoilers obvz):

He starts off as a high-ranking and well-respected wizard cop who risks everything he has - including potentially his life - to join the Order of the Phoenix to help bring down Voldemort. His character is generally portrayed as being intelligent, powerful, courageous, level-headed and calm. Throughout the books he makes valuable contributions to the fight against Voldemort and is shown to be a natural leader. At the end of the series he's appointed Minister for Magic - the wizard PM - due to his popularity following recognition of his efforts in the war.

His name has 'shackle' in it though so obviously the whole character is actually racist. Never mind how he's actually characterised or what he actually does - if they've found something to pick on then that's it for the whole character.

This is what I wanted to say, anyway. People got mad at her for what she's said about trans people - which I think is reasonable - and then started going through the books trying to pick apart anything they could to criticise her more.

Well look who just woke up!!

She's been super one-note in targeting trans people with her apparent strong dislike for them. She seems to rationalize it by projecting her own childhood abuse onto the people she's claiming to 'care for'. For quite a number of years now. Everyone white-knighting for her originally were mostly Potter-heads, and anyone that thinks that series is actually well-written needs their head examined. Enjoy it for what it is, sure, but let's be real. Her defenders quickly grew to anyone that also dislikes trans people.

That's the same type of idiocy the producers of She-Ra and The Princesses of Power got hit with. One of the main characters is a black guy, an archer named Bow. Yes, it's dumb as hell, but the original character was from the 80s so just go with it. It's established part way through the series that he has like a dozen brothers. And on a livestream, one of the producers was relating how the writers had been joking around and decided all of the brothers names rhymed. Like, one of them was a musician named Obow (Oboe, get it), stupid things like that.

Well, then they said one of the brothers was a farmer named Sow (as in sowing crops). And some people lost their shit, screeching that this was a reference to slavery and it was offensive and how dare they, and it was bad enough that the showrunner tried to defuse it by publicly apologizing.

Like, in these peoples minds, I guess there's no such thing as a black farmer. But it was evidence of something I've said for years, Liberals' tendency to pull knives at the slightest sign of imperfection is a serious handicap for the movement.

She stands up for women. And recognizes obvious, scientific, biological, objective truths.

The left does not like this at all.
