Depends on what you want from your syrup. Cold literally makes sweet things taste less sweet, and heat makes them taste sweeter.

There's a reason why some fancier restaurants will heat up maple syrup for you if they serve it.

I like the contrast of cold syrup on hot pancakes/waffles. And Maple syrup is already much sweeter than regular cheap syrup (which is why I usually don't use as much per serving)

I have two bottles of ketchup, one says refrigerate after opening, the other does not. The mayo says to refrigerate after opening. Peanut butter usually doesn't require refrigeration, unless it's all-natural (i.e., the kind you have to stir). And the bottle of maple syrup that I have also says to refrigerate after opening.

Things you should never store in the refrigerator:

Honey: it will crystalize faster
Bananas: the cold will stop ripening & make the peel turn dark
Coffee: will lose its flavor and pick up bad odors
Onions: will turn soft
Tomatoes: will stop ripening and turn mealy
Bread: You can freeze bread, but putting it in the fridge make it go stale faster

(You can put bananas in the fridge, but you have to let them ripen at room temperature first. Once they reach your desired level of ripeness, THEN you can refrigerate them and they will stay at that level longer than at room temp. But if you stick green bananas in the fridge, the skin might turn brown but it will be unripe on the inside.)

On the other hand, you want to refrigerate some oils like sesame oil because it will make them last much longer.

Eggs should be kept in the fridge in the US, but in Europe they're usually kept at room temperature. That's because they wash eggs prior to market in the US; that damages the outer cuticle that seals out bacteria so the eggs have to be refrigerated. In Europe they don't wash the eggs, so they can be safely kept at room temperature for up to 21 days!

It's supposed to be regardless. Just put it in a butter dish while putting it in the fridge and then take it out and microwave it for a few seconds or let it sit out while covered.

For the stuff you mentioned, it depends on when youll eat them. For tomatoes, if youre going to eat them in the next couple of days, you can leave them out. But if it will be longer, you refrigerate to slow down the decay

As for ketchup and syrup, if depends, as well If you constantly use ketchup and will finish it off within the month, just leave it out. If you just use it sometimes, then refrigerate it. It can last about a month out of the fridge once its open. For syrup, it depends on the syrup. But its usually kept in the fridge until its taken out to warm up before breakfast

It depends. As someone here mention, maple syrup can grow mold and spoil if left out after opening it because it usually has no preservatives But before opening, it can be stored for up to a year (in some cases) Regular table syrup is different, though But since they are each made different, some need the fridge, while others dont. It should say in the label. That said, if you use it fast enough, it might not even matter
