The clutch pedal is too much of a hassle, and I don't really understand how to use it. The car automatically turns off every time it stops, but that's whatever. All I need with this stupid rental is to go from home to the grocery store in a residential area, so it doesn't bother me that I can't go fast. But how do people learn how to drive this thing? It's so confusing to figure out, and makes me wonder why automatic wasn't just invented first. There used to be an argument to say that they're infinitely more responsive, so if you like being able to take off as fast as you intend then a manual is better for that. Autos are definitely more sluggish and indirect when you want to floor it. An old John Deere my dad owned that had a clutch to shift gears (mostly backwards and forwards.) Just thinking about it gives me traumatic flashbacks to my dad yelling at me to use the clutch while smacking one of his hands into the other.
