I usually update whenever a new one is available.

Been strongly considering trading in my 12 Pro for a Galaxy S22 the past few days though. Main draw of iPhone was the updates for several years vs 2 years on my S9 (and all my previous Androids) but apparently Samsung is committing to 4-5 years of updates now. I really did love my S9 and just kind of wanted to try iOS to say I gave it a chance.

Might hold out til the S23 though since its not that far away.

Core apps in Android are decoupled from the main OS so you don't always need to be looking for OS updates to keep your apps up to date.

Case in point, my Tab S4 is on Android 10 and my Note is on Android 12 but they both have the same version number of most of my core apps. Those updates come from the Play Store.

You can basically get the 14 free if your trading in a 12.

After some point the app updates fail, telling you your android version is too old.

The new wallpaper screen is alright, I guess. Not noticing anything else on my iPhone SE 2.

Hold Press the message you sent, and there's an option to unsend. It is not unsent if the other person is on Android or an iOS lower than 16.

They got rid of live wallpapers. Kinda pisses me off cuz I would make custom wallpapers.

I have a whole weather screen and its pretty neat. Aesthetically this is a good update. Changed my font and all that. Pretty cool

I just got the 13 pro max and love it, coming from a busted iPhone 7.

I would have got the 14 pro, but my phone was so busted and I needed it for deliveries at work.

I dont really care about phones but this thing is huge and I play Pokmon go sometimes so its nice to have this thing

having a battery that lasts pretty much 24 hours is a godsend

I don't like the notifications being on the bottom of the screen on the home screen.

I don't understand the point of continually making larger phones and then catering to people with small hands and forcing everyone else to deal with that catering.

Nothing I've seen outside of the usual "random people experience random issues" stuff.

Also another thing I forgot in my other post, the whole way they changed wallpapers/the lock screen is awful and it's nothing more than a convoluted mess now.

Correct, but you can still "trigger" it while the phone is locked and then it prompts you to unlock it.

Yeah your face unlocked it lol. When you do it without unlocking the phone your phone just vibrates and says "Unlock to Edit".

Also I just realized Battery Percentage is back too!

Battery percentage has been around, I forget which iOS it was but you could change it back in settings.

I have a iPhone 7 so no update for me. I have my phone bill paid off through October so I plan on upgrading after that.

On the full-size screen phones it's only been viewable by swiping down. You couldn't just view it on the home screen or lock screen or while using the phone like the old phones with the home button had it.

Now every phone like that (sans the 13 Mini iirc) lets you enable battery percentage and it shows it in the actual battery icon itself.

I have the 13 pro max and you cant see the actual battery percentage unless you charge it, pretty stupid honestly but it lasts for a day so I guess they figured it didnt matter lol

cant even change it in the options its pretty silly

In iOS 16 you enable it under "Battery" and it looks like this at all times

Then you can't be running iOS 16 on a 13 Pro Max. It's literally a default feature and the only phones missing it are the XR, 11, 12 Mini, and 13 Mini, and those phones are getting it with 16.1 next month.

Yeah I guess I dont have iOS 16 then

Better be sure the upgrade promotion is good through then. Trading in the 7 towards a 14 right now gets you 400 bucks towards the 14 for example making it half off on Verizon. An extra 200 to switch to Verizon if your not with them already.

It will likely be a decade for a decent phone to hit that point, as Galaxy S6 is still taking app updates with ease.
