I started reading this book on my free time.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/8/9/AAaB-xAADpvN.jpg

I'm at the part where she writes about how her mom refused to let her and her older brother shower alone. Her mom would put the siblings in the shower together and perform "check ups" on Jennette by opening up and feeling inside her anus and vagina. All of that continued all the way up until Jennette was like 17.

She also talks about how her mom would force her to sit in booster seats in the car despite Jennette being a teenager.

Also talks about how her mom would force her to heavily restrict her diet so that she was only eating like 500 calories a day, which led to severe eating disorder.

Yeah....

There's a whole bunch of other horrendous things as well, but it would be too much to write.

It's horrible because her mother lived vicariously through her daughter to the max.

She never achieved her own dreams, so she dumped all of her frustrations onto Jennette, who didn't even want to act or to become famous.

Yeah.

It's no surprise that most child actors come out with huge issues. There is so much pressure being put on them.

In the book, she says it made her emotionally stunted (among other things).

She doesn't want to return either. There's an iCarly reboot and they offered for her to come back and she said no. For their part, they were insanely supportive of her and said there'd always been a spot for her if she wants to come back, but there's 0 pressure on her to do so and they support her.

Thats awesome.

In her book she talks about how writing made her feel free:

Mom doesnt notice that Im lying, even though it feels so obvious in my bones that I am. I absolutely prefer writing to acting. Through writing, I feel power for maybe the first time in my life. I dont have to say somebody elses words. I can write my own. I can be myself for once. I like the privacy of it. Nobodys watching. Nobodys judging. Nobodys weighing in. No casting directors or agents or managers or directors or Mom. Just me and the page. Writing is the opposite of performing to me. Performing feels inherently fake. Writing feels inherently real.

Acting was never for her.

I've heard that she wants to do or would be willing to do behinds the scenes work like directing or writing and if there is any truth to that I think she'd be pretty good.

Random YouTuber have free audible trails if you use their codes. I would give it a try. It can't hurt. I got into them because I have to drive two hours to work, and in the middle of my way I hit a dead zone so I could not use Pandora. So I just got a book in place of it and didn't look back. I would get long books so I can get the most for my money.

My boss had a daughter who wanted to go into acting. Since she was a child, she had a chaperone with her whenever she was auditioning or on set (always an adult family member). Under no circumstances was she ever to be left alone with any adult other than her chaperone. This stipulation was also included in her contracts. If the studio broke this rule, she'd walk.

As a result, she never got very many jobs, so she never went far in her acting career. She stuck to commercials did the occasional bit speaking parts in sitcoms. This was all years ago and since then she's grown out of her acting phase and is currently engaged.

The whole thing made me rethink the idea of the "showbiz parent" and how Hollywood heaps scorn on them. My boss would fit the stereotype since he was deeply involved in everything his daughter did in her career. Yet it was obvious he was looking out for her well-being by doing everything a responsible parent would be expected to do.

Jennettes mom sent Jeannette an email after her mom saw photos on TMZ of Jennette and Jennettes boyfriend at the beach together:

Thirty-seven missed calls from Mommy, sixteen voicemails, and four missed emails (we no longer share an accountI recently created my own, thanks to Joes encouragement). I open the top email:

Dear Net, I am so disappointed in you.

You used to be my perfect little angel, but now you are nothing more than a little SLUT, a FLOOZY, ALL USED UP. And to thinkyou wasted it on that hideous OGRE of a man. I saw the pictures on a website called TMZI saw you in Hawaii with him. I saw you rubbing his disgusting hairy stomach.

Add that to the list of things you areLIAR, CONNIVING, EVIL. You look pudgier, too.

Its clear youre EATING YOUR GUILT. Thinking of you with his ding dong inside of you makes me sick. SICK. I raised you better than this. What happened to my good little girl? Where did she go? And who is this MONSTER that has replaced her? Youre an UGLY MONSTER now.

I told your brothers about you and they all said they disown you just like I do. We want nothing to do with you. Love, Mom (or should I say DEB since I am no longer your mother)

P.S. Send money for a new fridge. Ours broke.

Think thats bad? It gets even worse. Jennette took a hiatus from using her phone only to discover this:

As soon as the phones in my hands, I know Ive made a mistake, but its too late now. Forty-five missed calls from Mom. Twenty-two unread emails from her. I start reading through the messages frenetically, and each one gets more aggressive than the lastshe calls me a dimwit, loser, scumbag, devil child. Joe says were running late for the airport. I dont care. I read another email. This ones titled Letter To Your Fans. I open it up and find a scathing note attached, a note that Mom tells me shes posted to an online Jennette McCurdy fan club in an attempt to get my fans to flee from me. She says that shes gonna steal all my fans, that she deserves them more than I do, that she swears to God shes gonna sign up for Vine and theyre all gonna love her comedy videos. I wonder if Moms bluffing, so I check the fan club she referenced. No bluff. Theres Moms message right on the front page of the fan club. I almost cant believe it. I go back to my email and another new message from Mom has popped up. I open it: YOU caused my cancer to come back. I hope youre happy knowing this. YOU have to live with this fact. YOU gave me cancer.

Like wtf?

I saw Jeanette McCurdy's Eric Andre episode recently, and I realised that I can't really watch that part any more. I only learned who she is and what happened in her life within the past two years, and seeing how uncomfortable that interview is isn't even uncomfortable in the "ha ha Eric Andre funny" sort of way. It's honestly kind of unwatchable now I know who she is and what she's gone through.
