It's been a while since I've found a new game that's really gripped me and I've been disinterested in most of what comes up in my searches.

I'd prefer something that can be played in short bursts and will last a while, but isn't a roguelike. I have a PS5 and a Switch.

Here are my favourite games from the last while:
n++
Super Mario Maker 1 & 2
Rayman Legends
SUPERHOT
Spelunky 1 & 2
Spider-Man
Breath of the Wild
Slay the Spire
The Witcher 3

I'd appreciate any help!

Celeste?

Or if you like puzzle games then Baba is You would be pretty perfect for short bursts and holding your attention for a while.

Monster Train will hold your attention for a little bit if you liked Slay the Spire but it might be too similar to be interesting.

Yeah, but they said no roguelikes.

If Peggle 2 is available on PS5/Switch, that is a great option for a short play sessions.

When I have time to kill, I often try to do a few runs in a Mr. Driller game. Though since it's pretty difficult I can't really do higher goals without cheat items lol.

if you have a few friends who also like slay the spire, across the obelisk is a multiplayer version with many more characters to play as. 100% best played multiplayer though, controlling 4 characters by yourself would be a bit much, even though it technically can be played single player

Have you heard of Outer Wilds? It's a space simulator mystery game. Lots of neat physics. You pilot a spaceship through space. Big gimmick is that the whole solar system is like 40 miles across and you traverse each planet yourself. Another intelligent civilization lived here before you and something happened to them and you're supposed to figure it out.

There's nothing else that's exactly like it. I posted a thread asking b8 for an amazing bananas mind-blowing game and like 50% of the responses were Outer Wilds. It's one of those where you should know as little about it as possible before you play it. It's one of my favorite games in recent memory. Definitely play it.

Good news: the PS4 version of Outer Wilds sucked, and it recently got a PS5 upgrade that fixes all the problems!

Seconding Outer Wilds (and yes, it's best to go in knowing absolutely nothing)

Into the Breach is a great 'short bursts' option if you like strategy games. The Witness if you like puzzle games. I will always recommend Hollow Knight.

Also you liked slay the spire. So I'll recommend Inscryption.

The underlying card game is great and they do fun stuff with it. It's very similar to slay the spire gameplay wise. It's another game you should go into as blind as possible.

also games that don't meet the "short bursts" criteria are all good too - I just really miss being able to pick up n++ and play a new set of levels for ten minutes

Outer Wilds is probably my favorite game of all time and as a man of good taste, I believe you will enjoy it. Can also definitely be played in short bursts!

I'll also recommend Tunic. Assuming you played Elden Ring like the rest of the world, Tunic is my runner-up GotY behind it. What I love about Tunic is it's not the similarities to Zelda that make it great - it's all the original ideas it has and how brilliantly they're executed. I think I remember you liking The Witness? It basically goes full Witness by the endgame.
