Town roleblocker roles can be detrimental. Scum roleblockers can't be detrimental because they can't accidentally block themselves because they know alignments. Town roleblockers can hurt Town and thus, can be a net negative role.

The fact it was jailkeeper does make it stronger, but the role can be ambiguous in nature also. Say you block a kill with a jail keeper. Is it because you roleblocked your target or saved your target?

So Jailkeeper isn't the most dangerous role.

The problem with your assumed mistakes is that it's a brief summary, and it lacks context of the game.

Shooting a vanilla night 1 isn't that uncommon. You usually are shooting into the unclaimed roles hunting for town power. If you come up wrong, oh well it happens.

If you assess the jailkeeper isn't that great of a player, could hurt Town, and likely isn't the only protection then there isn't much reason to target it initially night 1. Especially, as it could be a trap claim also.

She mentioned they shot a low activity Town vanilla, but one way some people tend to betray they have power as Town sometimes is playing passively in game and not assertive when power.

The reasoning is that they don't need to force as much information into the game to form their reads because they can use night actions to inform their reads. Plus, they don't want to draw suspicion to them for mislynches if poorly arguing something and/or betraying their power by little slips regarding things.

You see sometimes in my games people don't believe me because I am too upfront sometimes with my power than laying back on it. The meta changes back and forth regarding this. Others will try to draw shots as Vanilla and so on.

Immediately coming out and voting the jailkeeper could be however many faceted to just call it a mistake. Are you setting up a later fake claim that could counter it? Using things said to appear suspicious? Thinking the jailkeeper is the scum roleblocker as town isn't very unlike town normal paranoia.

Basically, if you are trying to cookie cutter mistakes and try and find the right formula to play mafia it will fail.

You need to take context, player tendencies, host tendencies, game setup, situational discrepancies, and so on all into account. No game is really just as easy as following a formula. There is many ways to win. There is many ways to lose. And it's forever fluctuating back and forth in the wind.

Best advice to give you is to learn to read people for who they are and not versus a blank slate of how "everyone" would act. Once you do that, you can successfully scumhunt more as town and discern some alignments. You will fail a lot because you can never account for every last detail. But, once you learn how to read people, you will learn that reading people sometimes still leads to town mislynches, which as scum you can completely scumhunt normally as you would town and hide your play successfully because even with your normal scumhunting, you can still get your mislynches and comfortably bus.

The trick is to follow a train of thought at all times. If you are 180ing or switching reads or so on without any real reasoning why, you are doing 1 of 2 things. Making stuff as you go because you are bad scum trying to look like you are making content, or you are town who isn't reading the game and lack enough content to successfully scumhunt so your logic breaks down a lot.

Or I guess 3, you lack logical trains of thoughts / poorly convey them.

Tldr: Can't play mafia with a formula and what is a mistake one game could be a great play another.

I dont think Ulti was a great sport last game, but overall Ulti has improved tremendously and I dont want mob justice to determine who can and cant be in the game. Thats a private matter between the hosts and potential participants

We used to penalize members of this community.

Now you can pretty much do whatever you want in a game and still show up for the next one.

So yeah remember that whole JK thing? This team I just replaced into is doing it with a cop.

A cop who is uncountered, and I pegged as cop before he even claimed. There is very likely no one that can stop us from killing him.

A cop who is highly likely to scan me out of fear, even though most people townread me already. If he scans his biggest scumread, he just gets one of my teammates instead, and everyone but me will suicide onto him.

The only plan appears to be "shoot random low effort player" and "push hard on the cop tomorrow because he should be an easy mislynch."

Like I'm planning to roll over and die before these idiots can outright scumclaim if I get scanned here, and then leaving them to their own devices. The chances this guy scans scum are super high.

Oh this reminds me Plum let me put Corrik and Ulti on ignore for a long while in Elden Ring am I allowed to do that here.

It just struck me there's a high likelihood I would end up doing this at some point and if it's just going to get me MKed better to know beforehand.

Yeah this is pretty much a bold faced lie. This community's lack of policing itself is why I've left it three separate times.

It just seems like every other community is filled with fucking idiots. If I could actually find one with some decent players I wouldn't be posting here right now.

Not true. I can remember a time like forever ago that people were being refused access to games bases on prior misgivings.

But that's doesn't matter because it has nothing to do with the here and now.

i made a post about the general state of mafia in this community as someone who has been observing the past few months but I thought it was too negative so I deleted it

I am going to again point out the "we are ostensibly all adults here."

If people would like to conditionally sign up, I can put you down as a replacement instead. If your reason is for a certain player, DM me and I'll keep it secret and only replace in if that player is no longer in the game.

As for ignoring people: it kind of ruins the spirit of the game, and I advise against it, as it hurts your own team. There's a big difference between tactically glossing over someone's posts or arguments intentionally and flat out not being able to read them.

And... the game hasn't even started yet but really feels like it has. Can't we all just get along? We should be chill about things and not this worked up.

You know Ulti, it really says something about you that all of your attempts to make yourself look better involve trying to drag someone else.

And this is absolutely true. From what she said, this scum team didn't seem to understand this, and was too blatant about what play they were making.

And to your point: Some of those were mistakes only because of the others. If I have my read in the situation right.

You've been given a lot of opportunity to show you are attempting to be a better person. You don't get to be mad that someone isn't willing to accept an olive branch from you.

She called me a misogynist in one of those deleted posts and played the victim card when she's probably the only person the board who says I'm toxic in mafia. And I just played the game. Didn't attack or anything, used the ability I got to try and pressure content out of her and she took her ball and went home.

She's not better. If it's not me it'll be someone else she'll play the victim card against unless she draws scum. And that brings its own set of difficulties because you've probably got half the people actively avoiding putting any pressure on her because she'll flip out.

If a situation is consistently negative and never gets better, then removing yourself from the situation is the smartest choice than magically not letting people bother you.

Like straight up I can just quit b8 mafia for good wouldn't want poor Crescent to feel uncomfortable signing up for games thinking I might want to play. And I don't want to sign up for games thinking she might, because unjoining comes off as needlessly hostile.

I don't need mafia. She clearly needs it more than me. I don't want mafia to be another thing people say I'm a big meanieface about when it's one of the things on the board I make a point to not be a meanieface about because you should be excellent to each other in a game.
