Seriously? Not seeing a source here but I feel like that would be unpopular. Letting teachers have more authority to push kids? That's the opposite of the blaming teachers for everything direction we're headed. I'm pretty skeptical about that post.

It's true. It's one school district, and it was done because parents were pushing for it. It's an opt in/opt out program. Not mandatory.

So, not near as bad as it was even just 30 years ago.

Maybe it's cause I went to school in the north, but paddles seems archaic to me, even when I was a kid in the 80s

The first time a child is physically struck by an adult (especially a parent), part of that kids childish innocence dies. Instantly. Instead of looking like , the kid walks around like .
The child is taught that violence is an acceptable way to handle your problems and these kids are astronomically more likely to go to prison or commit violent acts.

Anyone who beats, spanks*, slaps, etc., should be charged with felony child abuse, because thats what it is.

*Spanking is just a word that parents with a guilty conscience say because it feels dirty when they said, I beat the kids today.

The absolute worst is that it somehow creates this thing where the victim grows up thinking he/she wasnt abused.

Sounds like the perfect training regiment to create loyal and poorly-educated Republican voters. This even has the "bonus" of making kids hate teachers and education early on in their lives, another hallmark of the Republican party.

That's the same thing here. Permission from parents first. Otherwise it's the same shit, different day as far as discipline goes.

The people who think young children will obviously learn the nuances of "spanking with love" and "violence is only okay when you're young and need to learn a lesson", are the same who scream about how their children will be impossible to talk to if a teacher mentions LGBTQ around them.

Can't have kids wearing masks though, that's traumatizing and abusive. Unlike beating them.

Seems like a convoluted process for the teacher to do in the middle of class when some kid is talking.

Also a great way to open yourself up to a lawsuit when John Smith's parents opted out but the other John Smith's parents opted in and you beat on the wrong John Smith.

When I was in grade school paddling was still a thing. Sometime in the five years between myself and my brother going through they did away with it.
