Hamburger Helper is the only food that I sweat out. It makes me stink like shit for three days.

I just make it from scratch because honestly, the pre-package box doesn't really save you any time and/or money. The most difficult thing is probably chopping an onion, but even then you could just use onion powder if you don't feel like it.

I never liked hamburger helper. As a kid I loved tuna helper. Never had it since I was about 13ish I think.

Make this instead:

1 lb hamburger
1/2 onion, chopped
1/2 stick butter
2 Tbsp flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 10-3/4 oz can condensed cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream

Brown hamburger and onion in a skillet. Drain fat and add butter. Stir and add flour, salt, pepper and garlic. Cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chicken soup, and cook for 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally. Add sour cream and heat until warm. Serve over noodles or rice.

(Metric conversions: 1 tsp = 5 mL 1/4 tsp = 1.25 mL 2 Tbsp = 30 mL 1 lb = 450 g 10-3/4 oz = 320 mL 1 cup = 240 mL)

when i say decent, you have to apply that to the context

hamburger helper is not good. but in the context of hamburger helper and adjacent products, it used to be decent

I don't understand why Helly doesn't just buy a bag of egg noodles, boil them and then mix in some kind of sauce, gravy, butter, meat, what have you. This is destitute levels of cooking any sane human being could pull off.

I havent had the rice or pasta in a thing of hamburger helper for a long time. The stuff thata in the box just kind of sucks and doesnt cook right in the broth/sauce.

its been quite awhile since Ive had any though. Not a huge fan of the stuff. Except the Cheesy Enchilada. That stuff with some ghost pepper powder in a taco is pretty great.

There was a period of time when the noodles did come in a separate plastic bag. Not sure how long ago.

I often get the cheeseburger macaroni 1-2 times a year out of pure nostalgia and the trick to getting the noodles to not be mush is you have to add them much later than the box suggests. With cheeseburger macaroni for instance you cook and drain the meat, then add your water, milk, and cheese powder then bring that to a boil before adding the noodles and dont cover the pan with a lid like instructed as well.

Just make a package of Kraft Deluxe macaroni & cheese (the kind with the packet of cheese goo, not the powder), cook up some ground beef, and mix the two. Also works with cooked chicken, or canned tuna.
