I'm not sure how to feel. On one hand, I do feel confused and a bit frustrated that my posts were deleted instantly after I had posted them, and I never got to learn why, since I deleted my Reddit account before I even saw the notifications. On the other hand, I do feel relieved at the thought of no one ever having gotten to see them, since the posts in question were not very coherent or well-thought out. I would have not liked to have them attributed to my character. Moreover, I would not have felt comfortable posting them on a website with high traffic. I feel anxious thinking about letting such a large user-base see my comments. Anyway, most of all, I feel worried that my obsession over such things is an indicator that I dedicate too much of my life to the Worldwide Web. Anyway, I think I've treated this website as a Twitter account enough for one lifetime. How was your day, board?

I must have these answers.

I had similar issues starting on reddit, but if you get a post deleted by an auto-moderator it doesn't really count against you (typically)... it just means you had some keywords the bot looks for.

It might not have helped that I had posted the two messages in question in quick succession of each other.

It's one of the things I hate about Reddit, and why I only bother posting in a handful of subs. A lot of them have like ten thousand different rules and it's almost impossible to post in them without violating one, so I don't even bother. My advice is to just find a sub that's more lax.

Wait, so posts that violate one of the prescribed rules are handled by the auto-moderator bot? Should the moderation team not take care of them personally?

One of my first posts there got auto-modded because I had a space included at the start of some text I quoted. Or maybe I didnt include a space they wanted me to haveI forget.

Either way, it was the dumbest thing ever. I told the moderator that was a really stupid rule if they were hoping to continue to pull in new people. They agreed. Nothing changed.

It had something to do with trying to maintain a new and old Reddit at the same time.

ya, the auto-moderator is tricky and custom setup on every sub.

on many of the literature subs the auto-moderator will delete topics if the body is less than 250 characters for example; the auto-moderator is NOT a punishment, it's a filter.

Some subs even require you be a certain level or karma to post, and posting there will get you auto-moderated.

That could explain it. I made the account just twenty minutes before posting my messages.

sometimes you can also get auto-moderated for not setting a flair for your topic, or replying to a topic with a flair you don't have permissions for

the entire site really is an echo chamber funneling system

ya, on the side board there will be a definition of what constitues spam on the side.

Also, while reddit is very fast when it comes to replies, it's expected that people are relatively slow then it comes to new topics... a 'fast' rate of topic creation on reddit is like 2 a day (or 1 for each of your main subs)

Hell, that's how everything would be modded here, if SBAllen actually knew how to code well enough to set up a bot in the first place.

You think we've got a budget for that?!

(Also, Allen is supposed to be a programmer. It's how he got the admin job in the first place.)

Automod usually takes care of things that are easy for a bot to parse, like you don't need human interaction to identify a slur. Kind of weird to have automod remove a post for spam though, were you typing in all caps or something?

the subreddit i mod on the auto mod will pick up on certain phrases and also if you have negative or not enough karma. in some cases the auto mod will kick it to the mod queue where it then can be manually approved and in others, like a negative or not enough karma instance, will just automatically delete it and it never comes into the mod queue. at that point you can send a modmail message about it and it will either be looked at by a mod or just ignored depending on the post

something like half the subs require you have 20~30 karma before oyu can even post... it's expected that you only reply to topics for a few days

...

which is why there are bots that sell accounts :V cuz some people are so naughty they can't even get 20 Karma
