What I have noticed more and more of late, however, is my gardening is taking me further and further away from the television series. Yes, some of the things you saw on HBO in GAME OF THRONES you will also see in THE WINDS OF WINTER (though maybe not in quite the same ways) but much of the rest will be quite different.

And really, when you think about it, this was inevitable. The novels are much bigger and much much more complex than the series. Certain things that happened on HBO will not happen in the books. And vice versa.

It's not surprising. Books change drastically from one draft to another, and I don't think he's even at that phase yet.

If it ever comes out, I'm just gonna read a Wikipedia synopsis. I don't care anymore.

That's not too surprising since certain plotlines in the show were very different from what we'd already seen in the books (like Ramsay marrying Sansa instead of Jeyne Poole) so of course there will be differences.

But none of us really care since it's been more than 11 fucking years ago that book 5 came out.

And in tomorrows news. GRRM confirms he has added another project to keep him from his "work" on the next installment.

His ending was always going to be completely different from the books. The show omitted like 80% of the plot lines in the 5th book.

But isn't he planning ANOTHER book after Winds of Winter to finish the series?

Even IF we do finally get Winds of Winter, we'll for sure NEVER get the last book.

Yep. It's what I've been saying all along. Dude can't handle that the way it ended was so disliked.
It was part of the deal that the showrunners had to know how it was going to end since he was a notoriously slow writer, so the show ending is how it was supposed to end. How we got there and all that was made up but the ending we got was what was going to be written.

Confirmed to end on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved!

You know whats funny about this? Book nerds cant shove it down your face that they are the true keepers of the definitive canon. It cant be the definitive version if only 3/4ths ever got published!

That makes the TV show the definitive version of Game of Thrones. The books might as well be on the same canon level as comics and video games.

He's not working on it, but ASOIAF will end differently than Game of Thrones, because it ends with Jon being dead and Dany shitting herself in the Dothraki Sea

Nah, I don't think the show backlash has a lot to do with it. Even for authors that work quickly (like Sanderson), books change drastically from the outline phase to actually writing drafts. For a slower author like GRRM who over analyzes the fuck out of his work it changes even more. It's been years since he gave his initial outline to those hacks, so it's probably drastically different in a lot of ways. It's just the nature of the profession.

His gardening method means each plot point creates a ripple that affects everything so he keeps rewriting.

It's already been 11 years? Well hopefully he doesn't pull a Dr. Dre. Started hyping up his new album, Detox, in 2002. Then after many delays, he announced in 2015 that it was canceled because he didn't like it.

But then last year we got "he's back in the studio, working on Detox"

He has a podcast now, called Game of Owns.

He also says that The Winds of Winter will be longer than A Dance with Dragons and "not 30 pages longer but more like 300 pages longer." He doesn't rule out Winds being split in two or his editor forcing him at gunpoint to cut things down.
GRRM also notes that he has come up with the "perfect ending" for a character that had previously eluded him, and that will be part of A Dream of Spring. He also indicates that if ASoIaF does expand beyond seven books, it will be more likely because Winds or Spring (or both) are split for length than him deciding to write an additional book.

They used to have this writing competition called "Bad Hemingway." The goal was to write the most cracked out Hemingway style story. I would love to see a spoof of "Wind of Winters" done in the style of Stephen King with all of the King cliches present.

BTW, the winner of one of the previous "Bad Hemingway" competitions was about this seaside Spanish town where all the men were lusting over a woman's silhouette. At night, her shadow would appear in her apartment window and she would hang her undergarments on a clothesline to dry in the sea air. In the end it turned out it wasn't a woman, it was the town Monsignor. He had bought the apartment to hide his fetish of dressing up in a wig and women's lingerie.

He absolutely is not working on Winds of Winter.

Yep. I feel like we will get Winds of Winter in some form eventually, even if it takes someone else finishing it off from his notes after his death. Dream of Spring is straight up never happening under any circumstances.

Hell finish it when the show stops printing him money.
