I've not seen either, but Song of the South is more like old-timey casual let's have a Mammy paper tower holder racism while Birth of a Nation is literally a KKK film, right?

It portrays the KKK as heroes of the reconstruction era.

It's original title was literally The Clansman.

Yes it should be pretty obvious to anyone with a brain. However I feel like there are some people out there that think SotS is some sort of horrible monster of a film because Disney has pretty much disowned it.

What got me thinking about this is the fact that Splash Mountain at the Disney parks is going to be rethemed to Princess and the Frog. Bre'r Rabbit, a classic character of African-American folklore is being replaced with characters created by a couple of white dudes based on eurpean folklore.

Birth of a Nation is the worst film to be released in American history. It's klan propaganda, KKK membership grew after its release and it was actually screened in the White House by President Woodrow Wilson.

... Why exactly is Song of the South being compared to The Birth of a Nation? I mean, sure it's racist but there is kind of a world if difference between the two on that front. At least have the comparison between propaganda films, Gods and Generals comes to mind there, rather than something sheerly because Disney made it.

Birth of a Nation, without question. It has white actors in blackface presenting black people in the worst light, depicts the Klan as freedom fighters, and was even considered racist at the time of release (one of the first major protests by the recently-formed NAACP).

I don't know how you aren't aware of Birth of A Nation then. It was literally shown in the white house and viewed by the president which was then used by the white supremist creator to promote it and reinforce segregation

I mean i clepped out of my freshman level AMH courses. Mostly a History BA deals with European/Asian/Latin American/Russian history after that.

Yes there's a separate Russian course.

It also revitalized the KKK. It was a dead organization at the time and the white robes were made up for the movie. Before then the KKK just wore normal shit. It literally brought back the KKK from extinction and gave them a fucking uniform.

Neat. Doesnt mean schools show it. None of my schools showed it either.

It might be an age thing. My history courses were 90% civil war and The Holocaust. At least Pre-college courses.
