The NFL stands to lose more with what Ridley did than with what Watson did.

Regardless, it's apples and oranges.

The length of the suspension is a joke.

Ultimately the NFL won't care unless it loses them money, which it won't.

Keep in mind that the suspension was decided by an independent arbitrator, not Goodell. He can appeal the length of the suspension if he chooses (although I doubt he will).

...And guess what, they play the Ravens week 7.

Yep, this sure feels like a completely independent process that returns him just in time for their first marquee game of the season.

I actually don't think the arbitrator took stuff like that into account. This is essentially what other players who've committed acts of sexual misconduct got, and so that's what Watson got.

You can argue the NFL anticipated a 6 game suspension and scheduled accordingly, but I doubt the arbitrator cared about that.

NFL: Oh you gambled? That's a full season suspension!
NFL: Oh you sexually assaulted someone? 6 games seems fair.

"Oh, but what Ridley did could've affected the game!"

And again, the NFL didn't decide the suspension. They put it out there that they wanted an indefinite suspension (which is an easy PR move when they know the final decision isn't up to them, but still).

Wasn't Ridley hurt when he was gambling on games? It's not like he was out there throwing games.
